Torso Study - Understanding the Difference of Realistic VS Cartoony

I've always had trouble with the length of torsos. Once I started studying torsos and started to apply it to the characters, something always seemed off.

Now here's something I've learned today that I've been wondering for YEARS. I always wondered about my legs being short. In the book I'm using, I also notice, the legs are short, yet somehow animu characters something seem different with them and I never could pin point exactly what it was.

With the torso study, I learned that anime artist tend to shorten the torso in height. But in order for the character to look balanced, they need to elongate something for what they shortened. So they draw longer legs on characters to make up for that. That way, the characters looks more balanced in a way. Real torsos usually measure up to 4 heads in height [using the head measuring system artist are known to use], while Shamir, Aqua and other characters they're torsos are around only 3 heads high.

So I decided to give it a try, a realistic torso approach, vs a more cartoony one.
