I have a lot of visceral opinions about Produce 48 that I will keep to myself to prevent any sort of spoilers, but it is a very interesting show. To address the disparity between the Japanese and Korean idols at the start, I do kind of wish they would've had a Japanese trainer as part of the panel. I know that would be unusual for a survival show like this, but they acknowledge from the start that there is a huge gap between what they are looking for and what those trainees have been taught, that it's very rough to watch these early evaluations. But the stated goal was to create a mixed group of idols that would promote in both Japan and Korea. It's also worth noting that a lot of the Japanese trainees were not really told what they were signing up for when they went to Korea. Some of them had clearly watched PD101 and knew what the show would entail, but I think a lot of them were clearly blindsided by the intensity of the competition. I'll also throw a bone to Chowon (the Cube trainee who was told that she should've been training on her fundamentals) because she was training to be an actress at this point when Cube signed her up to PD48. On a side note, you are at least a tiny bit familiar with one more of the other contestants as Yunjin (the trainee who performed with Ka Eun) has been in a couple (G)I-DLE I Talks as a member of Le Sserafim and friend of Minnie and Yuqi. Thanks for the fun reaction! I'll look forward to the series!

2025-01-08 14:36:13 +0000 UTCJapanese Idols are very diffrent from korean idols. In korea everything hast to be perfect from the get go. In japan it is more about growing as an artist and having fun.

Lots of familiar faces here, but less than in Produce 101 since I'm only familiar with maybe 5 members of AKB48. So some people you know or are tangentially related to idols you know or have seen briefly: from Queendom Puzzle we got Juri and Suyun (Sohee, another member from Rocket Punch is on this show as well), Miru, Chaeyeon, and Riina from H1-Key (I believe she is going by her real name Seunghyun in this show) Eunbi you've at least seen in that Valentine's Special episode of Weekly Idol with Jiu, Sua, and two Fromis_9 members. She is good friends with Dreamcatcher and interviewed them on her show in the past. We have 3 contestants that debuted in Lightsum (Sangha's group), 2 contestants that went to Everglow, 2 contestants debuted in Purplekiss, 1 went on to debut in Kep1er after GP999, and 1 debuted with Cherry Bullet. AleXa is also here although I didn't see her at all in this episode. Also, the one judge Soyou is from SISTAR with Hyolyn Anyways, super excited to start watching this, and I can already tell there are going to be more Sohye rank-climbers in this show as well. Should be fun lol
