USD in depth part 04 - videos

Awesome, thank you for this, it's exactly what I was looking for

This is what I showed in the video, and what you can do to apply a published lookdev to an animation geometry. 1- You publish your asset (static). That contains both geometry and lookdev. In my case the character in t-pose. The asset has an structure that I decided to create in a particular way. charactert/geo/parts chartacter/mtl/shaders 2- Import the pusblished asset. You will get the same thing that you published earlier. As I shown in the video, if you only care about the materials, you can just import the lookdev usd instead of the complete asset. 3- Import the published animation (that doesn't have materials, only geometry). 4- Connect it after the published full asset (or just the lookdev usd). 5- Replace the primitive path of the published animation to be the same as the published asset geo. Because both publications (asset and animation) have the same structure, the lookdev will automatically be assigned.

Hi, thank you for the video, I managed to get to this point Static Geo https://pasteboard.co/pstcuPH3E0ou.jpg Dynamic https://pasteboard.co/WBNhVqCeNMio.jpg Animated Just Geo https://pasteboard.co/xl3cAhmmIBuV.jpg Is it ok? The thing that I could not understand is how did you manage to link the materials to the asset by just loading the mtl.usdc file at 1:59, how does it know that it should expect a geo?

You mean like this? https://youtu.be/LvOV9xCmhmk

Thanks for the video Xuan, I have one question about the animation layer, is there a way to change the model static geo to the anim geo without loosing the Material Assignment, let's say that my model have 30 geos in it and I spent a lot of time assigning all the materials, I would like to avoid loosing the material assignment, is there a clever way to do that? Thanks again for the series, looking forward to lighting and the Karma deep dive
