INKTOBER Days 1-4
Added 2017-10-05 19:25:50 +0000 UTCMy life is pretty hectic right now, and so I apologize for the lack of updates of late (should be able to start updating more very very soon). In any case, I am participating in Inktober, in which people ink a drawing every day over the course of October. Not sure if I'll be able to do a drawing every day, but so far I have managed quite okay.
Day 1

I really don't know where this drawing came from. Was starting another one on this page that I hated, and then I just drew the girl lower on the page, and gave her some kinda athletic-wear (which is similar to an outfit I had given my girl on SAINTS ROW IV). But then I didn't know what to do with her right arm, because it could have just been slouched over her thigh, but I am not good at drawing hands like that (working to get better!). So I threw her hand in the air, and liked the idea of it coverin something up, making her a little more devious-seeming than otherwise, so like, there ya go. I don't think it's fully successful, because I am not the best at playing with line-widths, especially when I throw in a brush-tip. Whatevs. It's okay.
Day 2

This one was pretty rushed, cuz I had just gotten home from work and had to leave soon for karaoke, but I wanted to draw SOMETHING. So here it is. A punk girl. What a surprise. I was going to give her legs, but I wasn't pleased with them, and so, like, I got rid of them. I gave her high-waisted shorts to kinda evade what I have a tendency of drawing (pants), and tried to texturizing them in a way I don't typically, which I think worked out okay. Her tank-top was supposed to be similar to the previous girl's (which is quite imperfect), but I fucked up on the lines running down it, and so I just made it black. I inked most of it with the brush-tip marker, and so it doesn't have much of the precision of a lot of other drawings I do - for better or worse. I don't find it too much a problem, cuz I would like to have a style that can bend and produce images that are less clean, but I do worry about it maybe looking TOO sloppy sometimes. I think this is okay, especially with the punk vibe.
Oh, and I just really wanted to have her not quite floating in space, so I threw a border on there cuz why not.
Day 3

I don't like his face. For some reason, I dunno, it seemed better in the pencils, and then I fucked up inking it. Whatevs.
In any case, I am still basically trying to work toward my sixties book, and so I watched QUADROPHENIA for research purposes. I feel like I learned a lot, which actually complicates the narrative I've come up with for my book at least a little bit, but maybe I can find a way to just kinda shove more of the cultural aspects into the work, giving it more a sense of life, while not detracting from what I have already planned.
This dude was kinda based on the main character, Jim. I didn't know that basically every mod dude wore this big green overcoat (not that they were just as much a gang as the rockers). The style ended up being more mismatched than I would have assumed they'd allowed of themselves, but whatevs - oust gives me more to work with in constructing style! I also think I did okay using the brush-tip marker on his jacket, even tho it was fraying a little bit. Still, gotta get better at it!
Day 4

This started by me just drawing that babe, and then adding a little border to her, too. But I didn't want it to be so empty! I actually had a lot of time I could utilize to do this one, and so I just kinda added a skull, cuz she seemed like a badass who liked skulls, and you wouldn't see it on the back of her jacket if I drew it there (at one point, I tried to make skull-and-crossbones coming out of her cigarette as smoke, but I couldn't figure out the best way to do it [which of course I just figured out right now]).
Then I was like, "Okay, I guess it's done?" but I wanted more! With that skull vein there, I was like, "Well, she looks like some fucking queen," so I gave her a firey crown, which made her seem, like, super legit (Wish I could draw it as well as Mignola, tho).
I knew I wanted something within the border, too, but I didn't know what! "What about some words - like a movie poster thing about her!" So initially, I was gonna have her name crossed out, cuz maybe this was some kinda possession thing, or some shit - but then, I kinda liked that she HAD a name, which I don't give very often. "Bridget" was totes random, but I like it. The movie title was just like, "Hot damn!" I just wanted it to sound like some forties movie.
And then I finally added in all the black shit, cuz it looked too bare. Really random use of shading, but idgaf.
BUT OH MY GOD, the inking on leather is such a fucking biiiiiitch. Like, I love drawing it, but GODDAMN. Took for fucking ever.
I really like it, tho! She actually seems like a more full character than I usually draw, because she come with a name and some symbology, too! And she is cool as fuck! So dope!
I dunno what's gonna come of the rest of my Inktober shit, but I hope I do another I like as much as this one. :D
