New Comic In Progress
Added 2018-11-30 08:29:58 +0000 UTCSo I am finally back on the horse, after a several month-long, incredibly stressful period in my life in which I made art a lot less than I would have liked. I send my sincerest apologies to each and every one of you who has continued to support me throughout this time, but also my incredible gratitude: Thank you.
Another reason why comics are so hard for me (unfortunately) is because I keep cycling between ideas that hit on the same things over and over again (two magical queer women with like good fashion and shit), and specific narrative points that I get sucked into until I grab them and throw them onto the next project, abandoning everything else which had come before. Literally the best way for me to do comics is just to start drawing - and then I HAVE to get the ball rolling. Also, unfortunately, the comic has to be short enough, or I’ll lose interest and/or drive very quickly.
The way to keep that at bay, tho, if I want to do a longer comic, is to do it as a series of shorter comics, but ONLY if I make up each short comic as I go - essentially borrowing from the old-school cinematic serial. Like, Louis Feuillade was make serials in the 1910’s in which a character might show up in one episode as like a HUGE reveal, and then die the next simply because Feuillade thought that the actor was too difficult (that hilariously happens in LES VAMPIRES, because apparently the actor kept showing up late). So essentially, I have no path for the narrative to take as of yet - it’ll still be done (like literally all my comics) in a run-and-gun method, because I can’t keep my attention on it long enough otherwise. Soooo...there might be some inconsistencies the further it goes, but I hope it ends up being fun!
So far for this one (which I plan on being four pages - ya know, the easiest way to put it on Twitter) I have about a page and a half done in pencils, but I know what needs to happen on pages 1 and 3 (I drew the half-page of page 4 months and months ago, and never quite figured the right comic to put it in until now; page 2 was just something I started randomly drawing today in hopes that it would turn into something, which thankfully for me, it did, and it connects to page 4, and so ayyyyyyyyyyyyy).
The inking on this will likely take a bit of time (typically it’s two weeks for four pages), but I am also coloring this, and so while it will take MORE time than usual, maybe the inking will take less time because I’ll do less rendering in the black and white?? Whatevs. I’ve got page two in fairly rough pencils to show y’all, if you’re interested! It really really doesn’t make sense without everything else, but like here ya go anyway!:

Also, I unfortunately do that thing where, to get myself going and not get bogged down in shit, I actually use a ruler to get straight lines for panel borders AFTER I have already drawn everything else. Ha...ha ha
Anyway, I apologize again for the months of silence, but I do want to say that I fully appreciate y’all’s support, and my goal with this one is to post regular-ish updates at every stage of production (so when I have pencilled pages done, when I am working on inking, and so on and so forth). Money is very very tight in my life right now and so I might have to do some commissions to make up for a bunch of dumb medical shit that’s happening to me and causing me to miss work, but I’ll do my best to be here as much as possible! Thank you, again. :)
