Here are some sketch pages I was scribbling on a few weeks ago. This was at the time I was specifically really leaning into that Frenden’s Inker super hard. Lotta Frank Miller and Jose Muñoz vibes here. Also, my friend had told me about making it so that the pencil tool ONLY read as black, thus excising all the gray from it, and giving it a much different texture, and so all of the graphic-looking shading you see was done that way!
I honestly really like this stuff, and would be down to do like a super contrasty comic in this style, if I could figure out the whole thing. I think it’s easy to get caught up in gray areas tho with that pencil tool. And I also feel like a comic with these vibes would lean super heavily in all different kinds of aesthetic directions - from like really cartoony to really dark and serious; I think that’s cool, but I would definitely need to formulate a story for which that would make sense!
Fun little notes: top left of the first page was a quick redraw of a Muñoz character from Alack Sinner to see if I could get the quality of his linework (which I believe I did!); top left on the second page is a redraw of a Breccia character from The Eternaut 1969 - I don’t think it looks as close as the Muñoz, but I think it does the job okay; and the top left on the third page is Gertrude, but with a much larger, Frank Miller-esque chin (hers is usually almost non-existent, depending on the angle lol) - honestly, she looks really dominating and really hot like DANG. Haha
Hope y’all enjoy these! I have some new pieces I will be doing posts for shortly, when I have the motivation :D Thanks so much for your patronage!
