Sorry for a bit of a hiatus on posting new works - kinda got in this go-go-go headspace and just wanted to not stop making art 😅😅😅. But here are four new pieces I did recently!
The first piece was WHEW what a pain in the ass - and so much so that I actually don’t enjoy looking at it anymore (hopefully I’ll like it again in a few weeks lol). For starters, I could not figure out why the girl on the left’s face just looks…wrong. I spent a lot of time editing it over and over in an attempt to fix issues, and I think I mitigated most - but still not all!! - of them.
The other major issue was that I had virtually finished the drawing, but initially I hadn’t made the girl in the back a demon, and so there were no wings or tail (which I’ll include below). And so I came up with the demon stuff because 1) I needed to fill the space in some way, and I couldn’t figure out a working background to do so, and 2) The Queers would probably find it hot (they did!). But getting those wings right proved a massive challenge, because the angle at which the characters are standing actually makes that pretty hard. Depending on where you look within the drawing, I feel like the wings can look more appropriate or less; her legs are facing forward in a way, and so the wings don’t gel very well because they have more foreshortening, but her back is slightly turned - but is it turned ENOUGH to have created that severe an angle for foreshortening still? Who knows! All I now is that it caused me such frustration that I just had to publish the drawing cuz I didn’t want to work on it anymore haha

The second drawing is of a girl I named Bridget, and I actually adore this piece! I saw this drawing by this cool artist on Instagram and I wanted to emulate the vibe and style (kind of like subdued manga vibes), and so I did this little test (included below), but it was a little sloppy and I felt like I could give it more of my all! So I drew Bridget next, but I mainly drew her because I wanted to um render teeth haha. Essentially, teeth are really hard for me to color because if you color them plain white they can kinda stick out hard, but if you render them in some shadow they just look discolored. But taking what I had learned in terms of eye rendering from that Instagram drawing and combining that with watching YOU and noticing how teeth have a glint even when partially hidden by shadow because of how light can still hit them, I ended up building a drawing that I think includes the best teeth I have ever colored, even though they are far from the focal point of the drawing haha. Otherwise she’s just really cool and chill and I want to be her friend and no I have tried since to draw her in another pose and I can’t figure out her hair volume to save my life.

The third drawing is casual Gertrude, and honestly now I am kinda trying to rethink my Gertrude book (cuz I had dropped it entirely) and maybe develop something that will start out on Patreon, depending on whether I have time once I get a job! Essentially this fit just kinda came to me and I was like drooling like WOW WHAT A BABE and so I had to draw it lol. Her shirt was originally gonna JUST say “MOMMY,” but I felt that wasn’t as original as I’d like, despite it being an appropriate vibe, and somehow the “TBH” came to me and it was such a perfect vibe that felt very her as character and me as creator that I just had to roll with it. But yeah. What a hottie.
The last drawing is weird haha. But it’s mostly because I didn’t even do pencils for it; instead, I threw down a blotch of color for the skin and then just started rendering the lips, nose, and eyes without like any line work at all (unlike Bridget, I actually drew this specifically for her lips). Very unusual process, which is probably why she looks so odd compared to my usual output. And originally there was no hand, but again, like that Demonlover drawing up there, I wanted to fill the space, and so I added it in hopes that it would add to her desperation. This is defs not my most-liked piece by any means (maybe my least-liked of the year thus far?), but I think it does have an energy to it that I like, especially with those tears just tracing the shape of the face, even in their imperfection. I also just kinda like some of the coloring/rendering. I find that, even tho I rarely consciously choose a color palette, I am pretty good at maintaining a consistent tone, and that makes me happy! Still, I haven’t yet put color into my comics, and so we’ll see what happens when I have to use a palette for a whole book!
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this semi-detailed insight into these pieces! Apologize for little in terms of process shots, but some of these don’t even have them haha. Thanks so much for reading! ☺️☺️☺️
