Recent cover work

So while I am not willing to show as-of-yet unpublished covers, I still do wanna post my original cover drawings without title treatments and stuff like that. I feel so, so fortunate that I have been able to work on these covers (and others, including more from Image and TWO so far from DC), and I only hope to continue growing in my capabilities as time goes on!

First is The Power Fantasy #12! Fun story about this one: I went to NYCC last year with an intention in mind: impress Kieron Gillen (who was already aware of me) and Caspar Wijngaard (who I didn’t KNOW was aware of me) SO MUCH that they would offer me a cover slot for The Power Fantasy. Instead of having to impress them, though, on Friday during the con I was just standing outside a pub next to Caspar at 1:15 in the morning and he turns to me and just says, “So Chloe, how would you like to do a cover for our book?” I was gobsmacked - FLABBERGASTED, EVEN!!! - because I assumed even if it did happen, I would not hear about it for maybe months. But no, it worked out beautifully. And when I got laid off a month later, Caspar had me draw it early so they could get some money in my pockets. Genuinely nice as fuck, I could not believe it. Super grateful on this.

The Sickness #8 is second; I looooove this book, and am friends with Jenna and Lonnie (who make the book together), and so getting asked to draw it was super, super wonderful for me, and it allowed me to try something that wasn’t my typical Babe With Blank Background vibe hahahaha. I love it!

Three is Exquisite Corpses #2. I had been asked to do an exclusive cover for the book before it had even been announced, and when I saw all the other artists who were also doing covers for it, I could barely believe the company of which I was a part. I was just supposed to use the Tiny Onion colors (magenta, yellow, black, and white), and draw the character Layla Blaze. I think giving her this really intense, dirty appearance was so fucking cool. I had a blast!

Fourth is You’ll Do Bad Things #6; my editor asked me for a giallo vibe; to this day, I - a fake cinephile, apparently - have never seen a giallo film, but I do love the intensity of the posters! At first when I was doing layouts I was mostly pulling from Soviet film posters, but I clearly didn’t understand how wrong-headed that was lmao. I eventually settled on this layout, and I had a lot of fun arranging things on the page and bringing the COLOR to life; I still think it’s my most colorful cover, tho after what happened with Image’s printing of my w0rldtr33 cover, I am almost scared to see how this one prints 😭

Lastly is w0rldtr33 #16, the finale of the third arc, and the one I felt closest to; I always feel a lot of empathy for stories of adolescent girls, maybe because they don’t get nearly as much screen time in cinema in the US as adolescent boys, and maybe also because I didn’t get to go through a female adolescence, myself. In any case, it was really cool to draw PH34R, and give her this kind of intense underglow. The outfit she is wearing is literally from like two panels in issue ten or something, which I SCREAMED when I saw and immediately messaged my editor I AM GOING TO DRAW HER IN THIS hahaha. It is unfortunate that Image kind of fucked up the printing; it’s both too dark and muddy, AND too gray. But alas! At least the design is pretty cool! 😭🙏

Hope y’all enjoyed this little exploration through some recent work! I’ll try to keep up with giving some good info on any upcoming covers that get announced, as well! ☺️☺️☺️🙏
