To loop or not to loop: that is the question

I need your opinion!

You may have noticed that some of our newest videos have no loop at all along the entire length. In others, there may be 1 to 4 loops each lasting 20sec to 60 seconds long.

Unfortunately, there is a trade-off here due to rendering with limited hardware. So, my question is:

Do you prefer longer animations or higher image quality?

Comments

Thank you all for answering this poll. We've learned good stuff again from. This time, the take is that there is a slight preference towards original animations over image quality, but we're not going to fully neglect. So we're going to continue mixing these 2 approaches, but with a slight preference for longer animations.

I'm afraid I have no experience in 3D rendering with iRender. I'm no animator. All I did was deep learning. At the time, I only had a 2070 Super and I wanted to test more powerful equipment so I went with. I went with the cheapest 3090 option they had and I was not disappointed. The amount of batch image the deep learning use for training was way higher than mine. Once I finished the learning, I was reuploading my project to my PC than render the video to save credits as much as possible. I put $230 on my account and, again, went with the cheapest option of 1x RTX 3090 and the longest session I did was 12 hours at 4 credits per hour. I use the rest for more deep learning for other deepfakes. Again, it's only a suggestion. :)

"$230 (...) will give you (...) 8x RTX 3090 (...) usable for 8 hours". Any experience of how long it took to render stuff using Blender Cycles (instead of using for Deep Learning)? It would be helpful if you have logs of rendering time both from your computer and from iRender so I can estimate my projects. I used these calculators below to estimate: https://rebusfarm.net/buy/calculator https://garagefarm.net/cost-calculator https://blender.dropandrender.com/pricing/ https://www.foxrenderfarm.com/pricing.html Numbers vary across these calculators, but they all tell me that I could buy myself a fine desktop after rendering some of our projects (less than 10 for sure, something between 2 to 5 projects).

Indeed they are a bit expensive. I was using iRender for my deepfakes until a got a PC a little bit more powerful. Wasn't too bad in prices but I couldn't find cheaper. It's working on a credit system. The more powerful you ask the mkre credit will be used per hour. I went back to check the prices. Let's say you put $230. It will give you 230 points. For a machine with 8x RTX 3090 will be usable for 8 hours. It also comes with a few pre-installed softwares, like Blender, Maya and some others.

That's a good question. Cloud rendering does improve rendering speed indeed. But it is so expensive that the cost would be equivalent of a juicy desktop if used in less than 10 of our productions. So we prefer to be patient and slowly reinvest in hardware.

Just out of the blue like that, have you thought about cloud rendering? Maybe it could help with length and loops?
