Web of Dreams - Closing Notes
Added 2022-06-25 19:42:19 +0000 UTCWell, this officially wraps up Book 2 in this series!
At just 95k words, this is the shortest novel I’ve ever written. (Book 1: Web of Secrets was 120k words, and all three Aeonica books were well over 100k words.)
Web of Dreams always had a lot going against it though, so I didn’t want it to overstay its welcome. First of all is the setting. As a fellow reader, I know how annoying it is when characters go on a “side adventure” that’s not their real destination. Not to mention the fact that we just did the whole “evil government” thing in Book 1. Flashbacks are also unpopular in fiction, so I was careful about those too.
With all that in mind, I tried to keep the book short and fast paced. Just long enough for the four MCs to solve their respective arcs and move on. I wanted that to happen in a high steaks setting though, which is why I did the whole dream/flashback thing in Creta instead of Espiria.
I’m happy with how the book turned out overall. It accomplished what it set out to do, even if it had some flaws.
Anyway, I’m taking a longer break this time—at least the month of July—to work on the following:
1. Plotting/outlining Book 3: Web of Knowledge. I rushed the outlining process for WoD, and I think it showed in several places. But I also got lucky because WoD was so character-focused with a simple plot. WoK might have a bit more going on plot- wise.
2. Getting Aeonica Book 2 ready for publication (Aeonica Book 1 has been doing well on Amazon so far, and I signed a deal with Podium to publish audio versions of the entire trilogy!)
3. Making some more detailed maps for Espiria, and possibly one for Koreldon City and/or Koreldon University. I missed not having detailed maps for Creta in WoD, so this is something I wanted to do before I started writing the next book.
It sucks leaving everyone hanging for so long, but I tried to rush my last break between WoS and WoD and I ended up regretting that later. I’m hoping that a more solid outline means faster writing for WoK!
Finally, I’m leaving Patreon turned on for July since we’re still six chapters ahead of the general public. I also managed to finish WoD before the end of June, so that gives everyone a fair chance to jump ship before July 1st if you want to.
For those who choose to stick around, I’ll keep you posted on progress updates and maps.
As always, thanks for your support!
