DayZ Critique - Combining parts 1-9 into a whole #3

The next two chapters are ready.

I'm afraid these two you've definitely seen before. And fairly recently at that. But I just had to make some corrections and apply some polish to get them in a presentable state.

The hero decay chapter has gone through quite a bit of tightening. The previous version had a really muddled structure as I'd simply done a bad job of isolating my points. Therefore I've entirely re-voiced the middle bit. Shaving off about two minutes. Hopefully it more cohesive.

Additionally I've rebalanced the audio so the music should be less overbearing in both. Let me know if you spot any whoopsies.

So for the curious the road-map now looks like this. I now stand at a crossroad and have a choice. Either go with polishing 1, 2 & 3. Or go to the end with part 10. I might alternate back and forth in order to stay focused.

The work continues :)

DayZ Critique - Combining parts 1-9 into a whole #3

I agree! I have never watched a video essay that ever was super excitement and hype through out. And the kind of crowd that watches video documentary aren’t really there for “you” per se, they are there to hear your opinion and essay. But it never hurts to try to see where you can hop in! I think about your rants on twitch, there you are energetic about how fucked up this publisher or this game or this industry is! There is anger, emotional statements! You are in the heat of the moment. As my University Speech Professor taught me, the best position to be is in that thin line in the middle, where you show emotion and stay objective at the same time! Hard for even the best public speakers.

Fair enough. I think though, that's kind of something that's endemic to video-essays, to be honest. You can put lots of ups and downs and emotion in the voice. But ultimately you're just reading an essay. So, I'm afraid there's only so much I can do about it. Thanks for the tip about the music though.

You sounded a bit robotic at times, but other than that you explained it pretty well. You were straight to the point with additional clarity at the right points. If you added a bit more "excitement" or something, then it would feel less like a drone after 10-15 minutes. also the music eventually became too.... mesmorizing? (if thats the word for it) it was so short of a loop and got tiresome to hear after a while.

Brilliant, well worth waiting for this, as always the attention to detail is what makes it so amusing and interesting. I can't get on with the DayZ stand alone and missed out on the Mod, kinda gutted.

Many thanks. So there's various different tracks pulled from different sources. Various instrumental Hip-Hop compilation tracks that are pre-compressed, Final Fantasy music, the Rust theme song, Little Big Adventure. I'm afraid I can't properly identify them all, yet at least. I'll add them all to the description eventually.

SovietWomble

Thanks. Will fix it!

I’m just gonna wait till the full thing is out, but good work Soviet, just take your time so it is perfection

I watched 6/10 just now and I liked it very much since you explained a lot of things I honestly was not aware of having never played DayZ (standalone or mod). On the other hand, I noticed that your voice seemed a little monotonous, and because of this fact it was quite easy for me to hear where you cut the audio since your voice level slightly pitched either up or down at those points. I hope you know what I mean, it's a little hard for me to word it properly.

Great work, small QA nitpick; you misspelled "phenomenon"at 0:41, 6:49, 15:54 and 19:02 in part 7/10

Great to see those blue "Final Version complete". I've only watched the draft version of the 7th part about Hero Decay (mostly because while watching you streams, you mentioned that a lot). I've wanted to wait to watch the others until they are together in the final big video. Can't wait for it. Glad to see you're able to get more progress on this project.

Brilliant work Soviet! I haven't seen these parts before being a recent Patron, but I find myself extremely fascinated with this series and the compelling way you're breaking it all down. Having not played either the mod or the standalone, I can't have any first hand experience to go off, but I do think you're breaking it down very well. Off topic, what is the background music you've been using for these videos? This part 6 one especially. I really like it! Great job Womble!
