Random PUBG Bullshittery - Update #3

Good afternoon folks. So it's week 4 on the latest bullshittery and it's almost finished. I'm currently on the quality-assurance stages to try and polish and fix things for you. It won't be too long now.

I'm also waiting on a couple of commissioned artwork pieces to replace my temporary scribbles that are currently in the render. I've recruited the aid of an artist I've used a number of times before. They've made a lot of my icons and sub notifications on Twitch itself.

So this episode has also seen me playing with a couple of new(ish) editing techniques.

The first was some more green-screening. Though this time using an alpha matte to make a series of 'stencils' in After Effects. In order to create a fun title splash for the PUBG zombie games segment. Complete with moaning zombie sounds.

Whilst I was playing around with the green screen Lulu of course had no idea what I was doing. But I like to think she was trying to help in her own special way.

And secondly, I've discovered (and have been practicing with) the paintbrush and stenciling elements of After Effects for the purpose of hand-written annotations and doodles.

What this can do is make it appear as though the subtitles are being drawn on, rather than appearing immediately.

One draws on the subtitles in a crude fashion, like so.

And then sets up a hidden alpha matte for the same word in a specific font. Which acts like a stencil, revealing only the parts beneath the font. Then all you need to do is offset the brush strokes to make it seem as though someone is writing it.

This sort of thing can look freaking gorgeous. You can setup specific paintbrush strokes and drag them across the stencil one by one, in a way that looks incredibly realistic.

And of course the same technique lets you draw on the video footage itself. Like an artist scribbling around his characters.

I'm considering buying a tablet for this purpose. It would take too long for every subtitle of course, but it's another tool in the toolbox for future bullshitteries.

Anyway, the work continues and I hope to have it ready for you within the next few days. I was hoping Friday, but that might be a tad optimistic. As soon as I can, sorry.
