Wrapping up today's After Effects training day with the following results:
- I've learnt how to use Null Objects (an invisible layer that sits over the other layers) and text tracking directly onto them instead of the text itself. Meaning there should be less fiddling or copy pasting text layers.
- I've learnt how parenting layers works, so I can make sweeping changes. Any changes made to the parent will be made to all others.
- Precomposing layers. Basically nesting layers into one to make my timelines cleaner and easier to manage. As well as being able to repeatedly use the same effect where needed.
- Some expression work to do some animations mathematically instead of keyframe by keyframe.
- How tracking mattes work, so I can make some fancy looking text in certain situations. Or highlight some areas of the footage by desaturating the rest (like the lipstick and dress in this Sin City scene)
Gradual improvements. Not everything will be necessary for the videos. But it's important to keep expanding my toolbox.
Next Random Bullshittery edit begins tomorrow.
