Video-essay fiddling - Update #5

Good afternoon everyone. Sorry, I really need to get into the habit of doing smaller updates faster. What happens is, I keep getting so close to completion I tell myself that I can deliver with the next update. But then something inevitably comes up to throw a spanner in the editing works.

So it's somewhere in the 7th week of the latest video-essay side project. Thank you for being so patient with me and sorry this is taking so long.

Video 3/3 is all but complete. There remains about three remaining things to quality assure:

• Add some extra audio during a battle royale montage (gunshots, etc)
• Balance the audio tracks, to make sure they're all at the right volume. I have a frequent habit of making the background music too loud.
• Maybe re-order some scenes at the end for the final 2 minute segment.

I am casually thinking about revoicing that final two minute segment. But I can always do that after the fact, once you have the video and I'm applying any corrections you may spot. And then you can tell me if it's better or worse than the original.

So one problem I'm continuing to wrestle with is the rendering time. To the point that it has caused me significant problems quality assuring this. It appears that my PC starts the render well enough:

Then after a hour or so I come back to this:

And then when I leave it overnight I find that it's clearly frozen on the 27%, 33% or 70% mark. The cause is currently unknown. This is probably going to take some investigation to fix. In the mean time, I'm clearing caches and allocating additional SSD space before I plan to sit down and figure out what the problem is. But I may have to provide a Patreon only version in a much lower resolution for the time being, sorry.

Naturally, this may also mean my quality assurance job is not as complete as I think it is. Owing to the difficulty in previewing the work. I'm hoping there are no huge issues outstanding. It has certainly slowed effective QA.

But the video is nearly complete. I'm running an ultra low-res quality assurance render right now, which I hope will be extremely close to the final form. In the mean time I'm going to google solutions to the rendering freeze problem.
