Video-essay fiddling - Draft script on The Isle

Hey there everyone. So with the latest project finished at the start of the week, followed by a couple of days break, I've since been pondering what to do as the next. And have been quite eager to stay busy.

What I have been doing is briefly assembling and drafting a possible video-essay segment. Though I'm not entirely sure if I'm going to launch in to a full edit, yet.

I'm more just finalising the script and recording the audio only components. Getting it to a state where I can listen to it and hand it out for feedback.

The video-essay concerns the recent games of The Isle - a dinosaur sim/survival sandbox that you may have seen me stream recently.

The video-essay concept goes like this:

• The survival-sandbox market has branched off quite a bit, but remains somewhat restricted by familiar concepts. Notably lots of humans looting guns. So it's intriguing when someone tweaks the basic framework, as it can take you in vastly unexpected directions.
• It's similarly interesting to see what well-motivated customer base do with the product, sometimes changing it in ways that the developer did not even consider, on their own private servers. Revealing demand a developer might not expect.
• And exactly like DayZ, it could potentially lead to an explosion of available genres, if developers only heed the lessons their customers are trying to teach them. And I ponder whether competitors are doing that.

Basically it could be a perfect little talking point for where the survival-sandbox things are at the moment. And good lesson about thinking outside the box of game design to find new  audiences to cater to. Rather than just continually trying to copy the product that came before.

Anyway, bear with me. I'll get this audio cut and polished. I've recorded about 50% of it on Thursday and Friday with an estimated total duration of approximately 30 minutes.

I'll complete this task by Tuesday'ish and then get back to you.
