Video-essay fiddling - Update #04

Good evening folks. It's the start of week 4 on this video-essay side project thingy. A progress update:

Short Version: I've finished about 33 minutes of 42 minutes of visuals. But have intentionally skipped a lot of complicated compositions. Going back and doing those now as it's more time efficient to do them in batches.

Long Version: So the process of filling in the visuals to match the audio has been going smoothly. I've managed to fill in about 33 minutes worth, with a lot of survival game footage. Roughly 9.5 of the 11 sequences and their associated audio.

I have however been intentionally skipping the After Effects comps. Note the little arrows at the base of the green timeline. This is because I felt it would be more efficient to do them in groups as a "phase 2", ahead of the quality assurance.

That is what I'm doing now. Going through and working on these animated sequences. Starting with the most complicated versions and then duplicating them and deleting what I don't need. My head is melting a bit. And some of them are so complex that my PC is unable to fast render them. But hopefully it'll look nice.

These compositions do things such as analyse survival game mechanics with little animated illustrations. And as a bit of fun I've also added many Patrons names running around and chasing each other.

I did however intentionally stop on the 33rd minute mark of the timeline. As I realised that Sequence 11, the conclusion, could be improved structurally. I'd like to take an opportunity to rescript and revoice it. I felt I went too granular with one particular element, rather than keeping it broad and more of a conclusion.

I'm going to have a sit down and rescript those 4-5 paragraphs. To try to make something that sounds good. And then I'll revoice it. Likely bringing the total runtime to the 45 minute mark.

So for now, the complex compositions are being finished one by one. Tightening the seams of the whole thing. A process that will no doubt continue for the whole week.
