Good evening there dear Patrons. I hope you're all well. An update on the next Youtube video for those interested.
So with PUBG bullshittery out of the way on Thursday I've been free to begin the next project. And since that's now 3.5 bullshitteries in a row I was rather hoping to take another good stab at my long-term side project - the DayZ Critique.
I'm hoping to script, record and edit the 10th and final chapter. And either complete the whole video, or at least get to a stage where I can present all ten chapters in draft form to you. Then hear your feedback and let you assess whether you think it's a hit or a miss. Either way I hope you find it interesting. Or at the very least...different.
For the unfamiliar, over the last couple of years I've been steadily chipping away on a passion-project in the background, once every few months. A video essay talking about some of the many elements that made the DayZ Mod so interesting and how a lot of them were not well represented in 2013's DayZ Standalone. Leading to a lot of people's dissatisfaction with it.
I'm doing this because:
At the base of this post I'll put a link to four of the working chapters for those curious. The others are still being reworked I'm afraid, bear with me.
So for this 10th and final chapter, I'm looking at the development process of DayZ through the lense of my own experiences as a Senior QA Analyst for a software company. Prior to becoming a Youtuber I worked with much of the same development methodologies that Bohemia are currently using, with many of the same processes. Even dusted off my old textbooks from back in the day :) So what I'm hoping to do in this chapter is properly explain the challenges they faced, their solutions, whether I think they made the right calls, and identify where I think they made obvious errors and what they were, hopefully whilst being much more rational than the typical horde of screaming Youtubers who have dominated the discussion about DayZ despite zero qualifications in actual development.
And so since Thursday I've been reading through and digesting the projects development blogs, stand up meeting notes, preview videos, press talks, and the standalone change-logs. And that process will continue until late this week, at which point I'm going to start working on the script. But already I've got SO much I want to talk about. And have been voraciously absorbing text over the weekend.
For those interested in some prior draft chapters to see what this project is:
TL;DR - I'm on pre-production for another DayZ video essay. By the end of this week I should be entering into a script and working out its structure and points/counterpoints.
