Thanks for taking part in the polls everybody. So the final tally of opinion was
1.) Option 1 - Just continue with Sons of the Forest = 556 votes
2.) Option 2 - Set this to one side and continue it later = 195 votes
And thank you for those who provided feedback in the comments or by email. It's all very much appreciated. A wide array of good points made by all.
So for the moment I'll continue working on the main Sons of the Forest edit to try and get you the first watchable parts of the video-essay.
But in my head, the following plan makes sense.
There are about 40 topics/segments to work through. But I don't necessarily need to do all in sequence.
First I need to record the script in batches. During which I edit it, tighten it, re-record segments entirely until the points sound correct. I'm often looping the daily render on my headphones during dog walking.
Once happy, I start adding the visual components. But not focusing on the quality assurance polish until the very end.
From there, WIP test renders start being made. Delivered to as early as possible, albeit often with "TO DO" temp assets where animations are meant to go. For example, 'chapters 2 to 8', or '9 to 14' and what not.
Why not make a 2 of these WIP segments and then see if I want to dip into a bullshittery? It might be tempting as a pallet cleanser by that point. There's nothing to say I need to focus on the whole edit in one sitting. And doing that last time was indeed taxing. It's mostly a question of whether or not I think I can return to a project cleanly (as I have a history of not being able to).
I can cross that bridge when I get there. For now, let me try and get at least the first hour to you in a watchable form.
I have an incredibly stupid issue that's holding up production however. I can't cut the visuals of a video without voice. And I currently have a common cold so I can't record it. Not without sounding nasally.
I'm doing some script polishing/tightening for the moment. How very annoying. I was hoping to lunge straight into parts 1 - 5.
Thank you as always for your support folks :)
