NEW VIDEO - Arma bullshittery (part 10)

Good evening everybody. Welcome to the weekend :)

So I think I've managed to finish the latest bullshittery. There's a few errors some eagle-eyed viewers have spotted. So tomorrow I'll do a slight revision render with some tweaks. But for the most part it's complete and the unlisted link can be found here for those interested:

Random Arma Bullshittery (part 10) - https://youtu.be/9SU2w0YWZ8I

For those nor familiar, this is a cut together highlights reel primarily focusing on the non-Prairie Fire (Vietnam) Arma clips. As I figured it would be better to do those next time in one batch.

Perhaps as Random Prairie Fire Bullshittery (part 1)?

As a result, the duration on this one is a bit extended. As I really wanted to include those WW2 operations. Otherwise I'd probably have to wait quite some time before those would see the light of day. Hopefully it all flows well. Do tell me your thoughts.

Challenge wise, there wasn't anything overly out of place compared to your usual Arma bullshittery. The frame rate remained a continual problem to keyframe around. And auto tracking often produced unsatisfactory results. So much of it was manually done.

I quality-assured the first 10 minutes last week. And minutes 10 to 18 this week.

The most interesting thing to talk about was a self-made problems that presented themselves in the ending scene. And the somewhat unusual ways I went about trying to fix them.

As mentioned in a prior update, the original footage of my mech rampage in the briefing area could only be recorded from a first-person perspective. Due to server settings that my teammates preferred.

But that did make it pretty boring when cut together. Especially when the song has gone on for a whole minute. And not much variety was being shown.

Imagine this gif, for a whole minute. And a third of that was just me driving around some hangers, humming:

For this reason I took some creative liberties and posed a bunch of NPCs with the exact same gear, in order to show the vehicles legs making physical contact. With the added bonus of being able to make the walking motion match the song.

But this created a bigger problem that I had to wrestle with.

The recording program I had used (probably Shadowplay), had squished all the audio into a single layer. My voice, game sounds, and Teamspeak. All on one layer, baked into each other at drastically different volumes.

Inconvenient.

And for an extra headache, the modder of this particular vehicle had given it an extremely distinctive, and pretty irritating, whining engine - https://www.dropbox.com/s/0ourrn5qn7ayobg/Mech%20engine.mp4?dl=0

Then adding the fact that my humming voice was already quite loud, and I had to turn it down further because of the jet engine, it the players on the ground quiet as mice. Especially in third person shots where the mech is moving away.

Rather than yell things like "look out" or "aaaghh" as they did on the night, the scene would keep hard cutting from my gleeful first person humming, to stoney-faced silence in a third person shot.

Therefore I took a another creative liberty. And asked for some volunteers to give me some same sounds I could dub in. Similar to the sounds being made I was running players over.

Alas, this scene is mostly going to be an enthusiastic recreation of what happened on that night, rather than a presentation of the footage recorded as it was. For my position as a cameraman was so inadequate. Hopefully it still works well, cut to the music.

It was a good laugh on the night. They promptly shot me with a taser when I got out of the mech.

So I'm very eager to hear what you think of the whole edit. Do let me know. This won't be the one that goes public in a couple of days. As some attentive viewers spotted some minor text whoopsies. So let me know if you spot anything that looks odd.

Thank you very much for your extreme patience and generosity folks. Much love to you all. You've been kind to me in ways I could never repay :)

Super funny! Loved it! <3

Great video! Although the "shooting a teammate after saying/doing something to offend you" joke is getting a bit old for me personally (The one were you were doing your "choose" monologue was a more creative variation though). The second half of this video had me in stitches! The Norwegian part I absolutely loved!
