The Forest - Update #5

Good evening everybody. Hope you're all doing well and have had a nice Halloween.

Once again, thank you for being so very patient with me. I know this project is a unusually lengthy. It's week 9 on The Forest video-essay here's a breakdown on progress:

• Week 8 (last week) - Recording audio for minutes 30 to 60. Segments 7 to 13 (of 24)
• Week 9 (this week) - Adding the visual components using game footage.
• Week 10 (next week) - Quality assurance of work done. Hopefully being able to deliver the next 30 minutes WIP render by the weekend.

Here's a shot of the whole timeline. The completion of this batch of work should bring it to just under the halfway mark. I'm currently working on the blue batch. (Intentionally disabling green bit to make it easier on memory):

I'm making good progress on the visual element. Note the yellow bar at the top of the screen, showing that I'm approximately halfway through this bit. Very much hoping I can deliver it to you at the end of next week.

So editing wise, everything seems to be going to plan. At the start of the project I made lots of "markers" in Premiere to flag areas of interest. Lots of footage that I can show to demonstrate the points I'm making. Where the game does something bizarre and worth showing.

In the areas where I don't quite have a clear shot (when there's a sub alert for example), I'm also able to dip quickly into The Forest itself and rush to those specific areas. I still have the save files from last year. Getting the visuals has been pretty straightforward so far.

I do want to see if I can squeeze in segment 14 of 24 though, if possible. As that particular topic is probably a fairly interesting one to end on, I think. In relation to The Forest.

It's where I'd like to talk about an annoying habit that some pieces of media have. A clash of interests between those making the visuals. And those who pitched/setup the central premise. Particularly if that premise involves heavy use of rules or restrictions. And I'd like to use the 2020 film Underwater as an example. I'll need to see if there's enough time to cut the audio/visuals before the end of the week.

Thus far though, everything is going swimmingly. Will try to get you a 60 minute WIP render by the weekend after next.
