I think this is the only anime that didn't stretch the "miscommunication" trope to the extreme. They misunderstood each other, and upon their next meeting, they cleared it up. All within a single episode. No three-episode long ordeal or over-exaggerated angsty inner dialogues. Also, regarding Jinshi buying Maomao out. My take on that is... Maomao had a loan with the Madam (from Lihaku's visit, which Maomao paid for (with money she didn't have and had to borrow from the old Madam)). It's implied that the Madam can "sell Maomao off", so I assume the contract of the loan is indentured servitude until the loan is paid off. So when Jinshi "bought out" Maomao, he essentially bought her indentured servitude contract for the cost of the loan (plus more I assume, given how happy the old Madam was). But that seems a bit complicated. Another take is: There was no indentured servitude contract and it was just a straight loan, which Jinshi simply paid off, letting Maomao be free to work for who/where she wants, and then Jinshi hired her. I like my theory better because it's more confusing.
