Changelog: Chapter 6
Added 2024-03-03 00:43:02 +0000 UTCAuthor's Note: Shortly after posting this I will be prepping a Bonus Chapter for release as a thank you! Stay posted!
After making some revisions to Chapter 6, I decided it would be wise to post a small changelog to cover the changes for people who didn't want to go back and re-read it. I adjusted how Will interacted with a more traditional magical option which had some minor ripple effects, but no major plot points have changed. It resulted in maybe like an extra 1-200 words (total) across subsequent chapters. It was mainly the structure/prose that I adjusted to better convey what I wanted.
RIPPLE EFFECTS/CHANGELOG
- Chapter 6: Will learns about a Skill called ‘Spellscript’ while prodding at the System for a magic Skill. The Skill popped up in response to him envisioning a ‘traditional wizard reading words of power from a spellbook’. Like the Unnamed Skill, the System warned that without Prerequisite Skills Spellscript would be functionally unusable. The System did not consider Magic a blanket Skill, he found this odd and will eventually ask about it. The System did not offer any more details regarding what Spellscript was. Given the tight timeline, Will makes the decision to prioritize exploring other Skill options since fishing for an overt Magic skill without Skill prerequisites would be a gamble at best.
- Chapter 6: The timer was reduced from 10 minutes to 3 minutes to reinforce the sense of urgency in a chapter moving at the speed of thought. The timer being short was the main point being made and how unusual the not-choice being offered to babies was. The specific number being changed supports the in-the-moment tension without impacting the bigger mystery at play.
- Chapter 8: Will comments that the engravings on Hwan’s magical item might be an example of Spellscript. He has no way of knowing for sure and is reluctant to overtly ask about the Skill before it can come up organically (since it would be like a random child asking about nuclear physics in a situation in which they should have had no way to even conceptualize it).
- Chapter 23: Will factors in the possibility of Mana Sense being linked to Skills like Spellscript but ultimately concludes that, without any prospects for a teacher, it is a moot point. His thoughts - at the time - still conclude that Tamer magic and a magical guard dog are more valuable for his First Advancement choice.

Good catch! I missed that one. Legend.
