We live in the most peaceful time in human history. Wait, what? Seriously? That can't be right, there are more wars than ever! Well, no and they're killing fewer and fewer people, even though the world population is at an all-time high...and the numbers prove it! We explain how we came to this conclusion, and why war might... go away.

I'd love to see the numbers on actually casualties and not just deaths. You have some great explanations but can we rule other other factors. For instance medicine has advanced to the point that battle field injuries that would have been fatal 25 years ago are not so today. So yes killings (deaths) are down, but what about the total casualty rates? I'd be interested to see your numbers. I'm not as hip on globalization as many are becasue I thing it has a dark side which can be just a brutal, if not more so, than war--just ask people like the Zapatistas, or the millions working in sweatshops and mines globally to provide the world with iPhones, bottled water, and other 'global' products--but that is another matter. Also while everyone may cheer an end to war, me included, we now have to face a new problem--one we better learn to lick real quick, as illustrated below. http://www.albartlett.org/presentations/arithmetic_population_energy_video1.html So I am skeptical that lacking war would make us better, we may just be changing our spots for new evils like economic oppression.
