Kurzgesagt 12,017 – A Patreon exclusive update!
Added 2017-02-21 10:20:51 +0000 UTCHey everybody, I just wanted to give you an update on what we are up to.
Right now we are doing a huge amount of work behind the scenes, we are finally tackling a few topics that are so big that we just can’t fit them into „normal“ videos.
The biggest video by far this year will be „AI & the Singularity“. A huge monster of a video that makes our lives pretty miserable. Right now it looks like it will be a 15-20 minute long. This is a nightmare of epic proportion. I have no idea when this one will be finished, hoping for late summer. But yeah. The only official goal is to have it out this year.
On top of that monster of a video we will do at least four videos that are around 10 minutes long in 12,017. Enough to explain certain topics in more detail. Right now there are four videos actively being worked on:
- GMO Food (super non controversial, nobody will be mad about this one *sobs*)
- Automation (Part 1)
- Unconditional Basic Income (Part 2)
- The Simulation Argument (We are not the first to do this topic but frankly, almost all videos about this topic are just clickbait because Elon Musk once talked about this at a conference. So we thought we actually try to explain this topic properly. Hopefully it won’t suck. Its probably the most „Fermi Paradox“ Video we made since a while.)
- On top of that we are crunching to have a video about European Union ready before France has its election. We still don’t want to do too much politics but the events of last year made us realize that we also can’t just be bystanders. This video will of course also be super non controversial and nobody will send us angry and hateful emails about it *sobs a bit more*.
The next 2-3 video will be „smaller“ videos. By which I mean more or less „regular“ Kurzgesagt videos about star stuff. The next one that will be out in two days is a collaboration with another youtube channel. Curious what you think about it!
Just so you know, even if we are a bit slow right now and the coming videos are not groundbreaking, there is a lot going on behind the scenes. These big projects take up so much time that there is basically no other options then to split the team and have one group fill the cannel with videos and the other group prepare the big projects.
If you have questions and further topic suggestion let us know! -Philipp

2017-02-23 13:06:27 +0000 UTCcan you guys explain the blockchain, what it is, how it works exactly, SWOT and its possible applications, there is not a single video that does this properly :/ Love you guys <3

2017-02-22 13:41:51 +0000 UTC*sits and waits patiently for the absolutely no non-controversial (over)reactions to videos that surely no one will have because we're all intelligent and considerate human beings* That delusion aside, it sounds like an awesome lineup and I'm looking forward to all of it! :-D
2017-02-22 06:30:30 +0000 UTCWow, those are some of the most fascinating subjects to tackle, I look forward to them immensely on a personal level, but also to some rational and balanced explication for the broader debate.

2017-02-21 20:25:12 +0000 UTCAwesome topics! I am really looking forward especially on the topics AI & the Singularity, Automation (Part 1) and Unconditional Basic Income (Part 2)! These are my favorite topics, if you need any feedback on these scripts, I would be glad to help you out! (I work in this field). The Simulation Argument sounds also interesting. Beste Grüße an die bayrischen Kollegen!!
2017-02-21 19:30:06 +0000 UTCVery good topics. Looking forward to the AI and unconditional basic income videos! As everyone one else has said, keep up the great work guys. Your videos are awesome quality and that takes a ridiculous amount of work.
2017-02-21 18:42:29 +0000 UTCThanks for tacking those topic, even the big ones, and for providing an update. Transparency is always great to see!

2017-02-21 17:01:44 +0000 UTCWhen you do the one on EU, could you *please* steel-man the argument of the opposition, instead of the regular "Brexit happened because of racists and other bigots"? Check out professor of economics Mark Blyth, for instance, he seems to have very good arguments against the EU. Here's a short and interesting video that could serve as an introduction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwK0jeJ8wxg Professor Blyth has been holding a ton of talks the last year or so, there should be plenty of material.

2017-02-21 16:02:34 +0000 UTCGreat update. I look forward to the new content. I would suggest staying away from the political stuff since there are many other content providers (CGP Gray for example) that delve into this complicated stuff and are way more into it. I love showing your explanations of superbugs and universe mind blowing stuff to my kid. You guys are strongest in science digestion, play to your strengths.

2017-02-21 15:55:34 +0000 UTCThanks for the update!! Sounds great.

2017-02-21 14:45:23 +0000 UTCThank you so much for the coming UBI video! I've been hoping for one from you since I first started watching your videos. I'm also happy to lend my expertise on the subject if you'd like.

2017-02-21 14:42:53 +0000 UTCThis is an impressive and exciting update. More power to you, and thank you for continuing to do what you do — in spite of any criticism you may receive. Keep fighting the good fight (also known as "being rational.")

2017-02-21 14:31:26 +0000 UTCI watch your channel and support you guys- I love the presentation style and appreciate the effort put into each video. If the criticism is on the comments of YouTube videos, then best to not take them to heart. It's much easier to criticize than create.
Richard Judd
2017-02-21 14:10:56 +0000 UTCI hope the hate mail isn't actually swaying what videos you make. You can't please everyone, so in trying to please people who get mad about certain topics, the people your channel is targeted at, ME, don't get to learn about your POV on controversial topics…the reason I watch your videos.
2017-02-21 13:34:51 +0000 UTCSuggestion: explanimate the fake news pipeline as described in Ryan Holliday's book "Trust Me, I'm Lying: Confessions of a Media Manipulator" https://g.co/kgs/a5bLzg
2017-02-21 13:17:41 +0000 UTCYAY! Looking forward to all of it! Take your time and we'll be impatiently waiting over here for the awesomeness.

2017-02-21 11:33:06 +0000 UTC"Distributed Computing": Please introduce BOINC, Folding@Home, and SETI@Home to everyone! It's a way we can all contribute directly to science and make a digital genkidama together to tackle some major predicaments (cancer, viruses, AIDS, Alzheimer's, clean energy... etc). It's also related to the developing of blockchain, which is changing fundamentally our economic model and life style. There's still many aspects about the idea. Hope you could put it into consideration. Thanks for all the good work! =)

2017-02-21 10:46:31 +0000 UTCThis is why I'll never stop supporting your team. I've always been interested in AI and the amount of efforts and the intricate craftsmanship of every video is impeccable. I really don't mind how long it takes as viewing each video is such a joy for the mind!

2017-02-21 10:43:04 +0000 UTCAbsolutely take your time - your videos are spectacular examples of topics covered right, and I'm very excited to see the longer videos for more in depth and nebulous subjects. All of your videos have been interesting and excellently produced and I don't think that rushing them out would do any good. Ultimately you're about quality and sometimes that takes time and effort. So, thank you - and thanks for the update.
Richard Comish
2017-02-21 10:41:17 +0000 UTCgreat to hear from you! so here's a suggestion: how about the video about the scientific process since there problems showing up last year when scientist couldn't replicate a lot of psychology studies and sparked a lot of discussion around this topic. everybody should know this but sadly a lot of people don't seem to. Veritasium did a video on this from another angle last year if you want to have a look: https://youtu.be/42QuXLucH3Q
