Theory two. Fuck it and fuck them. She’s no idea what’s she’s doing and while she doesn’t and won’t agree nor help with weaponizing citizens on her street, she keeps getting sucked into situations where she ends up ‘looking the other way’ just enough to be beneficial to her love interest. Is she a corrupted cop now? She’s technically not accepted any ‘money’ and it’s not a crime to be BAD at your job. For. Well. Most jobs. Between the two of them two options can play out. Status quo of a fake game of cat and mouse just enough to keep their heads above water while they continue their secret dance. Or number two, Mari rises through the ranks with the cops ‘unable to catch her’ and she fights and makes it up to the top (maybe even one of the top people gets arrested from a tip dropped by her to her cop lover) and now at the top of the chain, Mari directs them away from more extreme crimes and even takes to focusing on fighting other gangs under the guise of expansion while helping her lover clean up the streets in a more active way. Somehow, she always remains one step ahead and uncatchable, only, there IS one cop who is REALLY good at catching her with her pants down. Quite literally. ;D

I’m gonna go on a story after theory :DThey make fun of her too much at work, that doesn’t exactly breed any sort of loyalty. She’s even looked tired and has literally met her lover during a need to drink away the workplace bullshit. I wonder if that’ll be part of the motivation for her to.. bend the law in a way to help her lover avoid capture until she can convince her to turn a new leaf and testify for a light sentence? Imagine lots and lots of community service. Being her patrol officer or on friendly terms enough to visit and watch after the spitfire. I’m sure her coworkers would joke about her having a vicious dog at some point; one of those guys will just say SOMETHING infront of Mari and cop or not, it’ll be on. Maybe she’s not dealing with the hard stuff anymore but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have any friends or connections. So if some tires keep getting popped or trees t-peed, I mean, it’s clearly nothing to do with her. Nope. She’s under house arrest and watch. I’m sure it’s a coincidence. A happy one :D
