I don't see a "need" to move as of yet. The people decrying the excesses of youtube's shitty algorithm and practices are often doing so...on youtube, and are surviving the "purge". Every so often I find long winded diatribes on how youtube is going to blow us all away and beat us to hell for having opinions or wrong-think and then, I look back a year later and those channels are still there. Am I nervous for the future? You bet. I mean, at any point they could restrict us all to 10 minute videos, or make this into children's only entertainment, or require us to have 18 advertiser breaks a minute. However, I don't think there's anything we can really do at that point. This is their platform. This is google, afterall. Out-googling google is madness, and they more or less control the platform how they see fit. As far as hedging my bets goes, we'll see what the future brings. I've seen some shitty practices, for certain. Hands down I've seen some awful stuff ranging from censorship to outright favoritism to steering views. Hell, I've had a quarter of my views disappear in one day, views deleted from videos, subscribers unsubscribed en-masse, and folks have even reported their notifications being turned off. A lot of this just smacks of being impersonal in the way they deal with things, not out right malevolence. Its a megacorporation, and they act like everything they do is right. However, I'm a bit tired of hearing "The sky is falling" from the same people every few months. I find every time that bell is rung, nothing is done and there's nothing to do. Right now I don't consider Bitchute any better or worse as an alternative. Further, I don't think there's anything you can really do to get out from under a major corporation's umbrella at this time. Google owns Youtube. Jeff Bezos Owns twitch. The third parties control fractional parts of the market, at best. It's a sad situation to see, but this may be a genuine case of "What the hell can we really do about it". TL;DR - no plans for now, but eventually I may just put up a website and run it my damn self.
