patreon

A short rant.

Firstly - yes, we're working on TTB. I can't elaborate further. I'd rather you guys be surprised.

What follows is a rant, and I want you guys to know my feelings on it. Recently patreon has suggested I remove the 1 dollar level to "Grow my patreon". They sent out a patreon creator's suggestion that removing the 1 dollar level would vastly improve my money making opportunities. They also suggested that "still having a 1 dollar level" was a poor practice.

Let me say this loud and clear:

Fuck whoever in the fucking hell thought that was a smart message to send to me.

I am proud of any kindness, well wishes, thoughts or ideas people share with me. I respond to many messages a day, taking the time to appreciate the words people have to offer - whether it be insight, hate, scorn, kindness, appreciation, suggestions, what have you. People are taking the time to say it, so I listen. I read. I respond. From haters to adoring fans, I do my best.

And for somebody to say "You know what, this joker made me feel good enough that I'm willing to give him a dollar on a regular basis" is really special. Its not about the dollar. Its about a vote of confidence, buying a ticket, getting that sense of "Im gonna help out". Its a symbol of trust.

For patreon to feel that 1 dollar isn't "Enough" to promote "Growth" is a fucking joke and it demeans the kindness and goodwill I've been shown over the years. "Mere Dollars" helped save this channel when Comcast upped the price of my cable 3x overnight and put a cap on uploads. I was poor then, and in grad school, and trying to just make ends meet. I don't discriminate between tiers in this patreon. Some people get their names before others and that's about it. I don't have a special discord where people buy golden tickets to be ignored by me. I don't spend the money on pins to hand out on the monthly to distract you from the merch I shill, or the dollarshaveclub-raidshadowlegends-audible-book-club-for-toddlers-nonsense because I don't believe in any of that horseshit. I take the money. I use the money. I produce content.

"mere" (to patreon) Dollars helped this channel endure.

Dollars help this channel pay mike, the editor.

Dollars help create opportunities for other editors trying to learn their skills.

Dollars buy art, and assets, resources.

I've not always been successful in my life, but I've never dismissed the value of a dollar given freely or in exchange for labor.

So I will say this - I will not be dropping my dollar patreon level. If patreon thinks that's stupid, they can try to WORK for a dollar and see what that's like. Patreon is likely doing this because processing the fee for all of these small increments are likely very fucking expensive for them, and they'd rather a larger piece of the pie. Well fuck them. You do what you want.

It’s because Patreon isn’t making any money with the transaction fee taken out of their pocket (3-6% depending on the Credit card per transaction). But they have to do it anyway. Also fuck those guys for suggesting doing that if they wanted to not have a one dollar patron level I’m sure that they could’ve coded their website where it wasn’t possible to have it in the first place if it wasn’t going to make them any money. Good on you Tex for sticking to your guns on something like this. As far as I’m concerned that message is them trying to shift their problem onto you and it’s not right.

Michael Kimberling

this is yet another reason why I donate to Tex, because when corporations start trying to fuck him Tex says, "fuck you corporation, i do what I want!"(unless its Comstar, because they'll curve stump you if you don't pay)

lets try that again.

Fucking hell...I just jumped on the one dollar tier today and immediately read this. I have definitely picked the right creator to support.

Captain Hazelwood

Have you considered fucking over your fans? Its a great way to grow! - Patreon Marketing Good on you Tex!

Truth.

PPC's4Life!

*picks up the mic* ladies and gentlemen, a good man and a savage bastard. See, this is exactly why i give money to tex. Because he deserves it, appreciates it, and gives value in return. Good on you Mister Tex, and fuck Patreon with a BUS.

Ironguard

Damn, I appreciate your honesty and.... well.. In the words of Edgar Friendly "Fucking Eh!"

Walt_Man

I like how Patreon decided to mildly suggest "fuck your 1 dollar, we would also like to shill against the wishes of this page creator" right above this post. Talk about proper contextual advertising. Can't post a screenshot, but they display me a box: "Did you know? If you raise your pledge to THE BLACK PANTS LEGION, you’ll immediately get access to as many as more patron-only posts." I think their algorithm crapped out a bit though, "as many as more" - without a number in there - doesn't seem like any idiom I know.

I was told that If a street musician makes you stop walking, you owe them a dollar. I am here because of a man who made me sit and watch youtube videos about Mechs and farting spacemen.

ggamer2

My only thought was fuck yes brother.

Dark Azial

I'm happy to keep giving you my couch change for as long as you can put it to use my dude. And if the day ever comes where Patreon takes a giant steaming dump on content creators I'll gladly keep giving you my couch change on some other platform.

Will Roy

For this sentiment, I will give you 2.50 dollars now instead of a single dollar.

Urst_

I chip in some dollars to you Tex because you produce fun, entertaining content and you have a passion for it as well. It leaks through in your videos and I am happy to help you, in such a small way as throwing a few dollars your way. That email? Patreon continues being greedy, movie at 11. Either way, keep doing you Tex. I am happy to support you.

Kharakian

good stuff man, not too many creators on the platform today willing to stick to their guns like that.

Sponsus.org - much better site that takes less of your donations from you. Highly recommended.

Well stated, good sirrah.

Charles Fitt

I think they do it because they're scummy and desperate to bolster their bottom line in the face of declining profits. declining because people are realizing they're scummy and looking elsewhere, like subscribeStar

*Gives standing ovation*

It's a shame someone there doesn't understand the whole low-level community support idea that spawned & made the sites successful, and keeps trying to make the enterprise more profitable/traditional. Also sucks that there are enough middlemen eating every electronic transfer that they feel justified.

Gray -Trilug- H

Well said!

I'm a patron because of your honesty and commitment to your own personal ethic, not that you had to, but thank you for confirming why I give you mere dollars.

You are a great dude Tex, the real reason they say that shit is because they get killed on transaction fees for one dollar deals.

Dantels

This isn't the first time Patreon has tried to get rid of low tiers of donations, and the last time they did this many MANY content creators had the same reaction as you.

HedgehogBC

Your group reminds me of a better time when all people did was work towards their passion and the rest came second. It brings feelings back of a better time long past. We now cheapen our passions with a want for more money, more fame and authenticity is just a joke in the corner getting shit on. I love that the Black Pants Legion speaks their truth and let's those that seek it come. Those that come are welcomed with open arms, shown a passion of like minds and that means something in this day and age of golden cash grabs and marketing of sensationalist bullshit. I love this place and it will continue to receive my vote of confidence.

ninjagonepostal

You're a good man, Charlie Brown.

Owloycius

Hell yeah. We love you, BPL! ❤️

Po.Ta.To

I almost want to create a whole bunch of accounts at the dollar level now to spite them.

Fuck yea preach it brother
