THE WEEKLY UPDATE!

Comments

Hello Mr.Tex, just listened to podcast ep 103, the heartfelt conversation in the second half of the podcast really got to me, hadn't had a good cry like that in a long time. Thank you for doing everything that you do.

All the spaceman talk about people making videos with a bunch of smoke and mirrors to look cooler than they are really does take me back to the playground bragging in grade school and all the one upmanship that spawned all the urban legends for like, the OG pokemon games and similar. I remember being part of it as a teenager on the internet in its wild west days of yore. Many years, many stresses, many life experiences later and I look back at it and wonder why we were all such assholes to each other back then, me and the people joining me in the flame wars and hollow childish swaggering. Maybe it was the bullying in school combined with the sense of empowerment being able to be someone else online. Not a good excuse in hindsight, and it doesnt exactly speak highly of reddit communities that participate in that kind of crap. Its a shame because they tar the communities that are actually just sharing a hobby or passion and are good humored just by dint of being on the same platform. Relatedly, that story about the federal agent hanging up his coat cuts just a liiiiittle close to home. You described a disturbingly relatable experience to my current career and while I take some joy in the chances it gives me to make life that little bit easier and better for the guys I get to try and supervise, its taken hitting the 10 year anniversary where I sat back, looked at my wife, and asked myself some of those same questions. It's alarming. BUT, to move away from getting too morbid or negative, a couple questions for you! The first: if I remember right, you've said you're a fan of CZ handguns, correct? Assuming my memory isn't failing me, could you offer any advice on picking one? I've had the chance to shoot a 75b (or close knockoff, I don't remember if it was the legit article), and while it was an enjoyable experience, the slide feels too small with how tucked into the frame it is for my goofy monkey mitts. The only other CZ pistol I've held was an airsoft replica of the SP-01 and it fit my hands well, but I dont know if thats because it wasnt the real deal. Any insight on good options to look into? Secondly: I think it was the podcast (seriously, my memory is a dumpster fire I swear) that you were talking about worldbuilding and how you've helped people with theirs before. How open are you to someone tossing ideas your way and looking for feedback? I've got setting notes scattered between literal decades of spiral notebooks in a chaotic mess written in margins and around math homework from bygone eras and I'm always itching to refine the concepts further. Thirdly: When you talk about simulation vs simulacrum, what is it you're trying to describe in that difference? I've never heard anyone bring that concept up before and it sounds fascinating. Thanks again for entertaining my rambling, hope things are progressing well with the new job and the many projects!

Hi, Hello, Mr.Tex, to start off I would watch D2 any day of the week.... until my eyes bleed. Is "Mr. Train" the train's official name...? I was thinking Leroy Jenkins, because he comes in full blast without hesitation!!! lol! If Van Zandt is now cannon in BT , is GOAT's music also!? Need a good home defense pistol for my. It can't kick, bad (really bad) joints, I was thinking a 22 cal. I am only slightly familiar with guns, I hunted as a kid. I was wondering if there was a better one than that. Keep on keeping on, You be you and Have a good week! Jason Peterson A.K.A Pistol6699

I’m sure that someone else has suggested it, but I haven’t really seen it so I could be wrong, but have you considered seeing if anyone in the legion wants/is capable of managing the BPL Twitter? My gut says you probably don’t want to as you would want to pay whoever it was, and you don’t have the money for it/desire to pay for the service, but it seems like a potential option with some payoff. Figured I’d throw the idea out there just in case.

I’m finding that other channels like Timeghost History’s “WW2 in Real Time” project with almost 800k subscribers and C&Rsenal who do longform documentaries on the development of WWI small arms are suffering similar issues of getting the word out so it’s not a limited phenomenon. In some ways people are trying to go back to the old ways, the MST3K folks decided that they didn’t want to dance to Netflix’s tune so they built their own site to host their show on for instance.

Thank you for all you and your team does, Tex. I'm a New Englander so I try to stay reserved and repress emotions because... Well, that's just what we do. But please know that I, and many others, appreciate you for all you do for the community and don't expect anything except what you choose to do. I empathize with your struggles even if I don't understand them all. No question this time, just a reserved nod of approval.

Can we talk for just a second about how great the German language is? Oh man, Shel Silverstein is my childhood. One of the first books I read on my own was The Giving Tree and it really influenced me to give all of myself to just anyone. Fast forward 30something years and... yeah. Regrets.

the craziest part about hand drills is they didn't become replaced by power drills until the late 50s, and battery powered tools didn't really start to be a thing until the 90s. a good example how quickly technology can progress and how quickly people can forget what came before.

The trauma fetish makes compassion hard some times; I try to remind myself that the worst pain someone has ever been in is often the worst they can imagine. I try... I very often fail, but I try.

They Call Me Soup Can

Actually I have a question and I'll put it as a second post. I own a Lee Enfield No4. Mk1. I run wolf brand .303 through it for just plinking and the rounds are tumbling and I'm getting key holes on my targets at 50 yards. The barrel is straight and the lans and grooves are good for a WW2 rifle. But I think the barrel needs to be recrowned, what would it take and what would it cost to get that done?

Tex, glad to hear the update. Glad the projects are going well and in decent states of assembly. Take your time brother. Sorry to hear about your sleep issues. I don't have severe PTSD, but I have ADHD and sleep apnea, it was funny I got 4ish hours of sleep and feel decent, the next night I got 7 hours of sleep and felt like I did not sleep at all. When I find a solution I'll drop you a line with the cure. Percolator coffee is my favorite too, my favorite source coffee called burundi where the alkaline soil gives it a tobacco and dark chocolate flavor notes. Well brother we will keep going because we're too angry to give up. Be well this week and i look forward to next week's update.

Hey Tex I'm still upset about the Shogun2 flags especially since others are still posting videos today! but it's not worth my energy so...you need to (no necessarily stream) but do another playthrough of xenonauts with these mods! Also is HBS battletech scrombles done? Keep fighting the good fight and I really enjoyed seeing your stream live for the little bit instead of just the rewatchs later.
