Exactly. I remember back when the "mommy blogger" craze hit (yeah, I'm old 😂) and rules had to be put into place for paid promotions, stating that these people weren't real reviewers, that they got products for free for review, etc. I guess that this crap has been shady for as long as it's been around. Seems like as long as there's a way for people to screw each other over money, they will 😑

Very well reasoned response to that comment. I honestly hadn't personally thought of things in that way as I barely watch anything on Twitch, and usually skip the paid advertisements in YouTube videos. I think the thing that always drives me crazy about the paid sponsorships is it seems more than likely the people using them don't really care what they're shilling for, as long as they're getting paid. You've joked about steam key resellers in the past and honestly I think that's a perfect representation of a lot of what's wrong with the YouTube ecosystem.
