ANOTHER UPDATE APPEARS!

If I had to guess - maybe? My (personal) take on this is that the universe of Battletech is ultimately, at its origin point, a product of the 1980s. So whether by intention, or whether by subconscious late-stage Cold War zeitgeist, the "Western Values" partners, represented by an English-Germanic-Western European axis (which literally join together down the line) seem to be more of the "spotlighted good guys." while the Eastern Europeans (still largely in the grip of the Soviet Union at the time) are "plucky, but problematic", with the largely non-Japanese Asian Liao being the scrappy assholes everyone likes to kick around, but watch out, because over time, they become a significant threat. And finally, there's Kurita, which, being Japanese and it being the 1980's, was of course the powerful frenemy, the one that you never knew if they were going to fuck you over or if they were going to come through in a clutch. I'm not trying to say that any of this is particularly "good" or "bad", just that to me, it makes a certain kind of sense if you look at it as a product of its time. This is just a personal theory, and I could be totally off the damn mark as to the reality.

Question: Do you think FASA and subsequent owners of which there are many, seem to promote or at minimum push certain houses over others? It seems personally that Marik and Liao got less face time then a Steiner/Davion and the Kurita lovers. I am just curious your own thoughts on the houses popularity?

Did the YouTube gods delete the two latest episodes of Scrombles and will they be back? I never got a chance to watch then. Also, can you make a YT playlist of all your MW5 videos please? It's easier for me to keep up with them that way until YouTube fixes notifications. Thank you and have a great freedom day.

Question: do you think there is a viable way to implement melee combat into the MechWarrior series of games? I think it is an essential element of Battletech that was implemented well into HBS Battletech but worry it would turn into a "tap x" affair where an automatic sequence and animation would play out each time. Also loved the Marauder episode and look forward to the next installment, glad to hear you're carving out some time for yourself.

I mean, that's basically the Podcast.

I haven't bothered trying to make custom mechs for table top. The system is so detailed I feel like I need to be an actual mech engineer

The different and wonderfully warcrime filled way you guys used the transporter in Star Track got me thinking of something else: Fighting through a star system and conducting a planetary assault. Gator Navy type stuff. First, move in and establish space superiority with conventional starships. Have some of them screen a task force of shieldless vessels that instead have armor and polarized hull plating. Those ships are basically battlestars designed to launch attack craft and armor transports in atmosphere. They are BEAMED above a planetary target by massive Galaxy-class sized transporter ships. The battlestars alpha launch their craft, fuck up any targeting sensors that unmask, then get beamed out. An entire squadron of ships pulling an Adama Maneuver. Thoughts, anyone?

Tex, Question: Would you consider this idea for a short-form one-off or short series?; Tex Talks Out Of His Ass, where you cover a topic/RPG/setting with your brain-meat knowledge alone, with little-to-no research, just memory and opinion.

I always thought the modern revival of Battlestar Galactica had good ship design. The Galactica itself seems like a logical translation of modern naval design to 3D combat, as far as being a force projection vector, operating independently. Separate launch areas for fighters, redundancy in power supply and drive as well as C&C, fore and aft/dorsal and ventral guns, logical pilot quarters proximal to the launch bays etc.

Gotta keep reminding myself when he says “Warhammer” he’s talking about a. Excalibur and not 40k.

Question/Suggestion: In a couple upcoming Scromble’s videos, would you consider running a few of your mechs stock? I’d be curious to hear you talk about the standard loadouts of each much since customization would have been so rare. As always, take care.

In response to the min max question. Tex: "Let me tell you about...the NSN."

All G my guy. I think the main point was talking about flaws in certain designs. E.g. disable shields and sever the saucer. That ship is fucked. Whereas ship designs like the borg sphere or the covenant cruisers come off as more logical designs as they seem to be more designed with 3D movement vs 2D movement.

I actually have a question for you about content which I haven't seen asked or answered as far as I know, but I'm curious as to how you're feeling about making content. Just generic points of if you're still enjoying making things, if you miss some older aspects of making content, or even for things like Tex Talks BattleTech do you miss being able to do quick episodes without the expansive R&D sessions? I love the content and want to make sure that you're not burning yourself out making something because you want to please people and just want to get your view on things. Hopefully that makes sense and thanks for continuing to make great entertainment!

I know I'm not the one you were talking to, but spaceship designs and aesthetics got me thinking about how there might not really be a *MOST* efficient design since the best design elements are gonna be tied into what that ship has to do and what sort of environment it's supposed to operate in.

While you might feel guilty about not being "on time" I would rather have a late message from you saying that you're taking time for yourself than hear that you forced yourself to put something up when you needed time to yourself for real life issues.

Star Trek talk got me thinking about starship design. In my main discord a 2 hour discussion was spawned because someone pointed out a flaw with most Star Trek ships. The main issue being the saucer holds most of the weapons while the rear part has all the engines and power generation; but it's all connected by a central elevator shaft that is mostly exposed. Then they talked about ships like the Pillar of Autumn being built around a MAC cannon and how it's a bad design due to limited maneuvering and constrained firing angles. So my question is this. In all of the scifi content that you have consumed throughout your life, what do you think is the most efficient and cool starship design? For me personally I have always loved the design of the Normandy SR2 from Mass Effect.
