Hello Tex, I've got a couple of quick questions. From your experience writing the BattleTech videos what advice would you give someone starting out writing? (I'm working on my first story that will eventually go up on reddit under the HFY section.) Second question. I MIGHT be getting a bonus this year and want to acquire a new firearm but am conflicted, semi-custom 1911 or Marlin 1895 in .45-70? I'm not asking you to choose for me, I just want an outside opinion on the options.

Statement, not a question: I honestly appreciate the calls to help worthy causes. I keep a line item in my budget for charity and seeing something like "person with a kid now has no floor in their place" makes me want to help. I'm not exactly religious anymore but Matthew 25:40 sticks with me. If a man asks you for help, you help. Okay, that might have been from Letterkenny, but it's the same idea.

LogicBlock The problem with trying to balance things like mech classes in video games is twofold. Tabletop is largely balanced by BV making the nuance between more narrowly-separated units more meaningful. In something realtime like MW5, the difference between something moving 56kph and 64kph is barely even visible, let along distinct enough to translate to a ~9% difference in chance to hit. Compounded with the fact that the player's routine pinpoint accuracy puts them above LEGENDARY mechwarriors liek Natasha Kerensky and Kai Allard Liao in skill. The other big difference is the fact that games tend to have the uptime vs downtime cadence of going on missions versus playing around with upgrades, which makes having an "economy" necessary to prevent things from getting stale. It might be LORE accurate for a mercenary to sit on their ass for the better part of a year, mobilizing in their Centurion once to fight a Locust and two tanks. But if that's all a player sees it gets repetitive, hence why things like mech selection gravitating to a series of progressive upgrades rather than a one-off choice you'd get in a tabletop battle.

Idea for BPL "product" for sale. Make a plushie that looks kinda like an Awesome. Paint the chassis yellow and the legs black. Paint/stitch "Be Awesome" on it. Make it a one time thing and charge a decent amount to cover the fabrication costs. Any proceeds over recouping the production cost gets donated to a charity. Just an idea that popped in my head that I felt needed sharing. Otherwise keep up the excellent work :)

8 years ago, we lost our home and belongings to a house fire. My then fiancé and I were set to be married in 2 months and we had no renters insurance. We were prepared to cancel everything just so we could rebuild our lives. Instead, through the goodwill of friends, family, and complete strangers, we were able to keep the wedding intact and get back on our feet. It's money that I'll never be able to pay back to all the generous people who helped us, so I've resolved myself to always pay it forward. I'm thankful Mr Tex, that you shine light on causes that need it. This one in particular was personal for me. I hope things are looking up for my fellow BPL fan. I wish them good luck and brighter days.
