A Parable, and some modest (meager) wisdom.

Saw the secret preview this morning. Absolutely true with the line, "this is beautiful. And when you see it you'll know why." Absolutely amazing.

Vendrette, The Postalmech

This honestly moved me to tears a little bit. I didn't realize just how much I was struggling with "being productive" and doing things just for me lately.

Putting my Like here. As to not ruin the 69 Likes. For historical preservation.

Steve Constant, 'Splash Mountain'

Thank you for being willing to step into the line of fire. Also many blessing to your pending marriage. A bit of advice that’s helped me through almost 10 years and still going strong in mine: no secrets ever and never ever let your last words be one of anger before either of you walk out the door. You’re never guaranteed to come back through that door. God bless.

Damn, that's one hell of an example of why intoxicants need to be regulated and why one should never meet an online aquaintance at their home or alone or in private spaces... I hope that parasite didn't have any of her other victims murdered.

Sons of Lorgar

Oof. My Tex died in a similar fashion - a 2v2 duel with me pushing my luck. Died in a Kintaro SRM boat.

Adrian

So, playing BTA Advance. Out of the VFSM I only have Gramps left. Tex died in a shootout with a roughneck in melee. Took a bunch of shots to the cockpit. Tex died in a Battlemaster

Nothing to say or ask this week, just want to say thanks for another good update.

Elipses...

I think I found an AntiTex. Don’t touch this lady. The resulting Tex/AntiTex explosion would blast most of the planet’s atmosphere off into space. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cydvj6951dyo

Save voice as much as you feel is wise. Thank you and the team for all the work. The question, do you think that the customization of the Mechs and settling has been a key part of the success of BattleTech?

Jack Shepherd

So Tex, I sit here listening to the weekly update. Inspired by a lot of things said, read and discussed. It has accrued to me that I have been in the Aux and a WBPL member for awhile. Seeing both grow, and I have helped the growth. I don't point this out for ME, I point this out for you and everybody else, to see how it has all grown into! "Like wow Scoob!" It has become a haven for a lot of people, myself included. It is funny, in a way, how seeds are planted. They explode with a little bit of love and care. Stay healthy with some weeding, and turn into something lasting with good roots! Pistol6699

Loved the MG3 on our Leopards. Shame we lost it when we changed platform. 240 just isn't the same.

(Edit. Save your voice tex) Hey tex. I wanted to thank you and the bpl for helping me discover a new meaning to being a nerd. I got into dm'ing after seeing magistratum mundanus. As I am 2 months away from headed to the US airforce and not long after that I'll be married. I thank the bpl for being with me for the last 3 years which was the worst time of my life. And I know that once this very good time ends and bad times hit me again. The bpl will still be making quality content and good times.

May your effort be rewarded! Clan Meth Weasel FTW 😉

Sons of Lorgar

Now imagine the shit eating grins of 18yo female conscript gunners on the Strv122 after their first day of live gunnery training with that smooth bore 120mm L44 and coax MG3 combo 😏

Sons of Lorgar

When the original Red Alert trailer came out, I watched it on an .avi file on a CD that came as an extra with a gaming magazine. That version. It was the awesomest thing ever back then 😊

Weirdfish

For real brother... take heart, and know it's morally ok to cut bad people out of my life. It was a trial and error, but I learned how to say no to people.

Nerd_Power

Well I left Maryland in 2013 but I’m pretty sure the M1 is allowed, could be wrong. In any case Fulton does good work.

MrToBeNamedLater

Yeah, I feel ya bud. I've definitely been in that situation many a time

MaezHughes

Glad to hear from you Tex. Take your time on polishing the video, it will be ready when it is ready. Currently hoping to get some buddies together and help finance a day at the range renting a Bren LMG, probably in the fall as it is too damn hot. I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. I never saw it coming when my brother hung himself, so I understand the pain you feel. the world is cruel and it is hard to feel much hope in the toil... But we as a community helped save people in Ukraine, if nothing else we'll do our best to keep hope burning in the hearts of others. So let us keep the faith and fight the fight.

Codius Dak

I remember those stickers. I heard after Sandy Hook Maryland still banned them, hope they're still legal.

Nerd_Power

Tex, please save your voice. You mentioned "most people bite that hand, because it embarrases them and reminds them that they were ever in a bad spot." Do you think that's why, as the quote goes "nice guys finish last?" I've observed that all thru my life, early childhood thru late 30s that the good people get shit on snd taken advantage of, while the shitheads keep taking. As an aside... I've really taken to heart two things you've said, "if you're a giver, make sure you know your limits, because the takers don't have any." Also, "don't let bad people stop you from being a good person." I could write an essay on this but will stop here. It's just so frustrating how society needs givers and good people in order to survive and then beats them to the point they stop caring...

Nerd_Power

M1 Garands have an integrated magazine and are rounds limited to 8 or less nor do they have muzzle devices, detachable mags, pistol grips, barrel shrouds or any of the other fun stuff. They’re legal almost anywhere. I grew up in Catonsville. Life is great in 21228 as we say.

MrToBeNamedLater

Hey Tex, I joined the discord a while back but will try to post more there. Look for the anime gifs... Shark Girl Gura for the win. Looking forward to connecting with people.

Nerd_Power

I love Savage, Maryland, I was raised near there, but have not lived in Maryland for almost a decade. I thought Maryland banned M1's though? Though I think the western counties are 2A sanctuary counties? 🤔

Nerd_Power

Hey, Tex, I've got a cursed frankenmech for ya: the Jerbanmech/Urbanner. Bottom half of a Jenner, top half of an Urbie, resulting in one awkward medium 'mech that can go pretty fast in a straight line but falls over even faster if you try to change directions too quickly because the gyro can't handle all the additional weight.

Voice Volume [ |................ ] Levi's comment about his knife fight city shirt split my brain. One half is wanting one; the other half is thinking about how Knife Fight City could be done as an indie film in London without changing anything. I've heard that Victorian London had significantly fewer stabbings when compared to today but most victims today survive thanks to modern medicine. Your comments about doing good when no one knows it is pretty much straight out of scripture, 'don't let the left hand know what the right hand is doing and your father who sees what is done in secret will reward you' (not an exact quote). Also Jesus's comment on those who pray loudly in public for attention 'they won't get what they're asking for as they've already received what they want' (iirc) lines up with your morning of attention seekers. On the brighter side, recently saw a video by WhistlinDiesel where they attached a jet engine to a reinforced merry-go-round. Anyone who shitposts in steel has my respect.

Your story about the woman experiencing shooting a BAR for the first time reminds me of a story from a Civil Air Patrol encampment I was part of a few years ago. So there I was... The teenage cadets had a day to experience the Army firearms simulator on the base we were staying at. Part 1 was a simulated M-4 qualifying stage. Part 2 was automatic weapons, either M240s fired prone, or M2s in simulated Humvee mounts. With every group that came through, the smallest female cadets were the first to snag the M2s, even if they needed to stand on a box to reach the paddles. And every single time, those young ladies came off the range wearing the biggest smiles, after going absolutely HAM on every simulated target that was put before them.

Excited for whenever Twycross comes out and also sounds like the Black Knight is going to be incredible. Long post so feel free to read internally as you wish. Someone last week mentioned getting a quality M1 Garand and an option aside from the CMP. Just speaking from personal experience but if you have a beater M1 or at least a stripped or barreled M1 receiver, Fulton Armory out of Savage Maryland has several options for complete rebuilds. Other companies I know do M1 rebuilds, but I and my dad both used Fulton to get ours redone and they do amazing work. Not the cheapest out there but they do solid work, also make a wicked M1A as well. Hell, if you’re of small stature they even have their own variant of the T26 Tanker Garand…or heresy as the purists would call it. Story time and back me up at the end if you’ve heard this before as a gunsmith, Tex: avoid the “it’s too good a price to be real” deal on a complete M1 at a gun show especially if you don’t know enough about M1s to tell if it’s actually in spec or not. If it’s too good to be true, probably is. My first M1 was an alleged “service grade” rifle per the seller. “Shit grade” was more like it and a couple trips to the range showed she wasn’t all that was promised. After Fulton got it back to me and $2200 later, the only two pieces that were in spec and they DIDNT have to replace were the receiver and criterion barrel. Literally everything else was trash or worn out and needed to be replaced with fresh parts. I simply got taken for a ride by a dishonest seller and didn’t know better. If I had to do it again and CMP wasn’t an option I would just buy the stripped receiver, send it to Fulton and have them build the rifle around it versus paying for almost 2 rifles like I ended up doing: one for the shit grade and again for Fulton to fix her. Pro tip for the future. Small request: any chance you and the boys could take your “I Could Block 800 Rounds” song from Ultimate Admirals and upload it to the channel as a separate single video if time permits? It’s a catchy tune and has been stuck in my brain for longer than I care to admit.

In the words of the great philosopher: You dig giant robots! I dig giant robots! We dig giant robots! Chicks dig giant robots!

I think it was Ronnie James Dio who said, "Without the fans, we are nothing. Without us, the fans will always be." Feel free to save your voice... Getting back to my thesis about Catgirls from last week, I'm using the logic of 'If it can be there, it can be any/every-where'. Thusly, I'm looking to try and convince a GM starting a Mechwarrior: Destiny campaign to let me play a New Avalon Neo-Elf. Idea being a bunch of transhumanists really digging into the 'Avalon' of New Avalon and founding a colony in the pre-hegemony days, one that gets more and more sidelined on the planet as the early Federated Suns coalesces around it as it's capital and today what's left is a cross between an Amish Commune and a LOTR LARP. The Tourists love it. Publicly they're all Elrond/Galadriel cosplayers, privately they're rural Quebecois with pointy-ears in space. ...and so our young knife-ear grows bored with pretending to be a swordsmith at the perpetual Renefaire tourist-trap because their culture's Real blacksmiths can't be seen in public (An Elf with Biceps? ...you know that's unheard of.) so they go and buy a gently-used Hammerhands at the surplus auction. All eyes are off New Avalon at the moment because Hanse Davion is off getting married so it's the perfect time to sneak-off and stop being the Weirdo everybody expects them to be and start being the Weirdo they actually wanna be, what could go wrong?

Molly McAllister

Shoulder holster and bathrobe, eh? Fellow fan of Sledge Hammer?

Kasperl Stormcrow

when you take down the train, you should harvest its parts and use them to build a junker mech. We should respect our kills.

Ironguard

heh sometimes you can only choose one of the three... being able to pick two is fantastic most of the time its a sliding scale on a triangle... the closer you get to the edges or corners, the more you sacrifice in at least one direction

Sharien Radaik

power is scary to those who understand and care about the responsibility that comes with it - the only people seeking it out without care or fear are those who will abuse it... either intentionally or by giving no thought to the consequences so i understand why this is scary to you... but i want you to know, that while you have that power - you have used it well and with care as far as i can tell and i am convinced that those who are inspired by your work will carry that care forward... they will do it differently and they will do their own thing... but if there is anything that anyone learning from you will take forward it is to care.

Sharien Radaik

Still got my Knife Fight City shirt and it still looks great!

Levi Whitney

You *are* somebody, Tex. For all that you'd claim otherwise. The BPL is proof of that. We'll keep praising you anyhow. One of the reasons I keep bugging you to do Canopus is *because* it's not Catgirl City. We talked about home defense, you mentioned Vietnam and I've heard it mentioned, loudly, by someone who also has a job in the Military Industrial Complex, that the only reason they won is because the US media sided with them, and that Ho Chi Minh admitted as much. Not defending US Military during that time, not my point. Originally was about home defense and your Vietnam example brought to mind what that other person said.

Jay McIntyre

Tex, A man’s life is a series of ripples from stones thrown in the pond. Don’t think of others you have swayed or influenced for others as a power over others and let that be a thing of fear. Think of it as your ripple being big enough to cause others to make their own ripples. It’s a bit cliche in a way but it’s what I’ve found out to be true in my good while on this planet. Keep doing you my dude. Be proud of what you’ve done. It’s terrifying to take praise, I know it. Just remember that it’s a sign of how big a pebble/rock/boulder/object you’ve thrown into the fabric of existence. It’s terrifying, but run your race like you’re saying and the ripples are just a sign of how far you’ve run.

Magic Kebabs

Tex, good to hear from you. Please save your voice if needed. I think we could sell the bathrobe/shoulder holster combo to the Haute Couture crowd if we give them enough double talk about the duality of man and the "subversions of expectations." Whereas the reality is comfort and safety. For the wearer. And money for more movies about stompy murder robots. And if it doesn't work, well, they didn't like us anyway. They dress like Clanners. In all seriousness, thank you for talking at us. I eagerly await the Twycross film, and I wish you and your team joy of the day. P.S. I'm not military, but I *do* force friends and family to watch your stuff. I usually start with Dr. Christmas. It's a good gateway film to the BPL.

Bolo Unit BRL of the Line

Hey man. By all means save your voice, I just want you to know something. I don't say it to kiss your ass or make you feel uncomfortable or better than you are, or anything like that. That you inspire people to better themselves, regardless of the vehicle that you do it by, is righteous, and extraordinarily commendable. I know you dislike the moniker of content creator, but in this case, those who have far greater reach than you often do far, far less with what they have in regards to their fanbase. You know all too well the kind that milk their fans for money, emptying their bank accounts by taking ahold of their hearts and squeezing every last drop they can. You aren't that kind of person, and people recognise that. While I can't speak for everyone who's told you that you're in inspiration, I believe - truly do believe - that those that tell you as such only wish for you to get some modicum of enjoyment out of it, and pride in yourself for having brought that to the surface - allowing them to feel joy and pride in themselves for what they're able to do. I know you don't think that you're anything special, but lighting the torch to show people the way, and nudging them to be better than they have? Takes a kind of person the likes of which are rare to find in this shitkicker dog-eat-dog world in which we live. I'll leave you with this, in closing. You keep being you, the rest of us will keep being ourselves. As always, I'm exceedingly proud of you both for all you do, and for trudging along through the absolute hell life's thrown at you. It sounds so hollow coming out of me, but I hope you take it as intended. Stay as safe as you can - or at very least have some fun. -Kai

I was a recording engineer until I lost my studio. I miss doing it, but with my health now, I could not do it now. So I do understand.

Like I said before you can have fast, cheap or right and only two will be true and also remember what Teddy Roosevelt said about the man in the arena. And when you kill the train please post its dead corpse so we can all celebrate its demise, see you next week
