Hey tex. Thank you for the kind words last week.
Save your voice nerd rant below
Just ran the first game of a new campaign using the Modern war ttrpg system. It's all about realistic small unit tactics. I've modified it a bit and my current game is set in an alternate history cold war in 1962. It's based on "the new order" mod for hoi 4. Basically axis won ww2.
My players are mercs hired by the cia to aid rebels in German and Japanese colonies.
I've got a former OSS operative, a polish demo man, a soviet sniper lady, an Irish street tough and a German college student for pc's.
Once again I thank you for getting me into giving through the mundanus and wish you a wonderful day

Greetings Tex, thanks for all the entertainment over the years. Got back into Battletech in 2015 and have also got my nephew and brother-in-law into it. We are waiting for our kickstarter vehicles to show up, and I have an important question. What are the colors for the Van Zant postal service.

Hi Tex, in the past you’ve spoken highly of The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. I had already read Starship Troopers and Stranger in a Strange Land, and was just able to pick up a guys entire Heinlein collection of FB marketplace. I’ve now read MiaHM - what should I read next? Thanks for all the work you do, looking forward to the next big one!

Tex do you think that you can play the Urquan Masters? Got my imagination rolling in my teenage years with the hope of being a spaceman, sadly that dream didn't pan out, but the desire and imagination it started stayed. Goat has invaded my mind with his folk filk songs! Thank you Goat! Love to you and the team!

Walmart isn't as bad as people say, I've worked there for 4 years as if the 17th of this month. Does it have its moments of tedium and aggravation? Yes, but what job doesn't? Do u have to deal with people doing barely the bare minimum and then complaining to ethics when they get called out on it? Oh yeah, but for me personally, I try my best to not focus on such things. I do my best everyday to do my job as best as I can and to stay focused on what's in front of me at that moment. Is it a perfect job? Not really, there are things I don't like about it, (see aforementioned complaints) but the hours are reliable and it's a reliable schedule and the work isn't hard as long as ur paying attention. But enough whinging, I'm just glad that the progress on the new video is coming along smoothly, and as soon as we're given the go ahead, I'll be annoying my friends about this until it releases. You can count on that. Oh before I forget *hands a 5 dollar bill* that's for u and the team. Use it well for madness and shitposts

So I've been gone a while, for reasons, but I'm back. Glad to be able to throw money into the crazy pit. As always keep up the good fight. Feel free to save your voice. So fun thing happened that I think you'll get a kick out of...my family and I were on vacation and I took my girls to the arcade, my oldest and I hopped into a Jurassic Park shooter cabinet. We had fun, BUT my youngest, not yet 2, hopped on her sisters lap and held the spoons while we shot dinosaurs...the whole time her eyes were WIDE open and she just said "woah" as we mulched dinosaurs...then afterwards just walked around going "Dododododododod"

(Don't read aloud if you wanna save your voice) Hey, tex first off I am hyped that the video is almost done congrats to you and your team are in order. I know I will be proud to have my on this video. I do have a question for you though do you know of any sourcebooks that focus a lot on Solaris or something that focuses on that kind of arena fighting? You see, I have an idea, make something like Macho Man Randy Savage mixed with gray Norton and make it into a YouTube series using MechWarrior 5. If you can point me in the right direction regarding what I should research in regards to both BattleTech and actual pro wrestling that would be greatly appreciated if not that is totally fine. thanks in advance

Hey Tex, feel free to go into voice save mode. Battletech RPG was amazing this week. The team got hired by the AFFC and more specially Team Banzai and Doctor Sidney Zweibel. Had a blast doing an impression of Jeff Goldblum. So the team drops into a Kurita spaceport to secure the place and then hop in their ISF/Shin Legion mechs to go liberate an ISF prison camp.
Their intel however was faulty instead of there being a gap in the rotation they fill in with the Shin Legion, they bump into a full battalion of the Ryuken Ni. Except that they tore through the Ryuken with a reinforced company. They had a Devastator and Axman on backup, but never called as the Ryuken lost 15 mechs while the player team only lost two. It played out like the stories where you read about the Dragoons or the Kell Hounds tearing through their enemy and I witnessed it on the table, before me !
So in the end the Kurita commander decides to stop the fight and since the Captain and her share a history, she handed over her father's sword. Of course that's not the end of it yet.
Meanwhile the players created a battle flag (it represents an American Badger with the motto "Indissolubilis" or Unbreakable) and shoulder patch.
I'm stunned by the amount of player investment, it's one of my best RPG games ever.

Hi Tex, been following the podcast and YouTube shenanigans for years, sinc The Before Times, and was briefly in the Aux and watching WBPL76, but feeling like one voice in thousands trying to ask something or offer feedback was simply overwhelming to my old man think meats. But thank you and the BPL so much for continuing to put out so much content and improving every community you dip your toes into. Even if some of us don't go the route if trying to join the BPL, know that we all greatly appreciate all you guys do and always look forward to The Next Thing.
As an aside, if you guys ever want something different to talk about on the Cast, or a different voice, I'm an online flight simmer since the days when you had to pay an hourly fee to fly (specifically Air Warrior III, ca. 1996), and if you guys ever want to talk flight Sims and old aircraft on the podcast, I would LOVE to talk to some fellow old timers about the olden days. You can check out my YouTube stuff talking alittle bit about it (same name and icon as on here, I won't post a link for you to read out loud, I'm not trying to parasite you for clicks), but I'd absolutely love to give back a bit for all the enjoyment by contributing to something.
All the best, and take care of yourself first and worry about us a distant second. We understand.

Good evening Mr. Tex.
Magistratum Mundanus PDF when? I haven't been this excited for anything TTRPG in years. I'm chomping at the bit to get to it and start a game, either in the Aux, or local.
Not a fan of 5e, all power to the people that like it, it's just not for me. So the last few years haven't been overly kind to me in my TTRPG book addiction. I have over two dozen TTRPG games, I've read most of them, and would feel comfortable GMing a solid third of them. Just could never quite find a group to play with. And when I could, I'd be bombarded with every variation of the question 'Why don't we just play D&D 5e?' Even after making it clear that the game I was going to run wasn't going to be using that ruleset.
It was a frustrating time.
Listening to you and friends play TTRPGs in the BPL podcast was a breath of fresh air. And pushed me to try and get a local group running again. And I finally succeeded. So, thank you for giving me that push once again.
That's all from me. Magistratum Mundanus, can't wait for it, might try to run a game of it in the Aux when it finally drops and I have the time to read it.
Be safe out there.

Hi Tex, got an unusual question. Each year when I go to the Rennaissance Faire I see this fortune teller for advice. I know it's "for entertainment purposes only", but where else can you pay $20 to talk with someone who won't judge you and give advice - no insurance necessary? It's the closest thing I have to a spiritual counselor. But I'm not sure what to ask this year. I've lost interest in romance. I'm seeing a doctor next month so I don't need to ask about health. Any suggestions?

Howdy Tex, Save your voice if you wish. Things are going well again, My weight is down to good levels, and my Docs are happy with me. I've begun a MegaMek Single Player Campaign as a Draconis Combine "Mercenary" Unit operating out of the Pesht District, Fun Times, Heavy Casualties while fighting the FedSuns. First Contract has quite a bit of time left, and many engagements to boot, still gotta loot this world. In other news, Application is nearly done for Grad School! So Praise Be! I am excited for Twycross, can't wait to see a breakdown on that slugging match.

Tex, I dunno what you did between last week and this one but you sounded so much better last broadcast.
Something I’ve been musing on to make your naval historical autodidact twitch: Admiral Hyman G Rickover. One of the greatest engineers and most influential persons to ever live and serve in the navy and his accomplishments were legend in the development of nuclear power.
All that said, very little has been written or said about him relatively speaking. I’d chalk it up due to frankly how abrasive and contemptible he treated everyone around him including reporters and the sheer number of broken careers he left in his wake.
TL/DR he’d be a hell of a character for a Tex Talks History not just because of his accomplishments but also for his eccentric personality and ruthless contempt for mediocrity.

First, sorry about your friend. I had a similar situation with mine but he got into pills and painkillers.
I’ve wanted to get a TTRPG going but the few people I’ve talked to it keeps fizzling out. I have some ideas on how to home brew a game using the Fallout 1/Fallout 2 SPECIAL & stats system in whatever universe you’d like.
If you’d like to see about doing a virtual TTRPG let’s talk. I’d be open to it.

Sorry for your loss, and I hope your friend find constructive help with whatever experience or situation that she drank to supress.
I have two aunts, an uncle and a late uncle(mix of cancer and alcoholism) who've probably been alcoholics my entire life but I only found out about it when I was around 28, I'm turning 40 this november...
My parents, grandparents as well as other aunts and uncles kept it a secret from all of my generation who weren't in a need to know, and helped my cousins, the kids of those alcoholic relatives, to have an as normal childhood as possible and helped their parents to stay sober at extended family gatherings and celebrations as well as doing as best they could in terms of sibbling to sibbling and family in law therapy.

(no need to read this one aloud unless you want to give context). I'm sorry to hear about your DM friend.
While no one in my gaming group died, it did fall apart when our DM succumbed to her alcoholism. While she's still alive we are no longer friends, though only partially due to her drinking. It took quite some time to get interested in playing TTRPGs again, much less running them. I miss those games still, and it's been 10 years. I miss my friend more though.
Anyway, no insightful wisdom this week, just commiserating over good times and good people long gone.

Don't feel awkward about starting/stopping streams. It isn't your job, its your hobby, so yeah. Benefits of not relying on the content dollar.
Do a quick favor, give me a nation, year, and challenge to do in ultimate admiral dreadnoughts. I wanna try something a little different than I normally do. May your health be consistent and your memes shitty.

Hey Tex!
You can save your voice with this one if you want.
Just wanted to swing by and say Thank you for that podcast episode so long ago where you suggested that instead of sending you stuff we gift it to somebody who is new to the game.
Seeing people who I gifted mechs and rules to return rhe favor to other folks really cemented my devotion to this movement. Yes some of them needed to be reminded to do it in the name of Community not my name but I guess that is a burden I must accept. A positive moment for me was seeing one of my original giftees helping mentor and build her own group at a store handing out free mechs while helping with painting ideas and skills. She saw me watching her and gave me a thumbs up which I responded with the nod before I left. I will continue to do my part to ensure that this movement continues to grow and people continue to do good in the name of community.

Save your voice Mr. Tex.
I've heard how you don't like effusive thanks or praise and I can empathize with that. So I'll make an extended and painfully tortured anecdote.
there once was a man who's wife decided to take her own life, making him a widower at 32. A part of him felt that he had died with her--his body just hadn't caught up yet. In the weeks and months after it happened he felt he would soon follow her. On a lark he checked youtube for a notification, and found one of his favorite creators from a kinder time was making a new video. Well call them the Sable Trousers Brigade. As luck would have it, it was about his favorite medium battlemech, the hunchback.
it would be a bit of hyperbole to say a youtube video saved his life, but for a minute he was able to take breath out of lungs that felt like they were drowning. For what that's worth--it gave him pause to find his strength to stand.
that said, *I* am looking forward to the new video, and the Black Knight (my personal all-time favorite mech)
on a different note, I had commissioned some fanart about Dr. Randolph P Checkers with a space M.2, that I'd like you to have. I know you're be reticent to receive anything. So I wanted to get permission before I booped it on over on discord or something.
all my best
