The Next Update is the Movie so help me God.

Comments

Hey tex. As of writing this I leave for US airforce basic training tommorow. Thank you for all the good times and I hope when I get back I'll be able to keep loving your content

Alicia Melchiot

Evening Tex. Your comment on how cheap everything has become resonates with me. It’s honestly fortunate hearing from you, because at work with ringing in my ear, trying not to get angry at the state of the world, content like yours makes the load bearable. I ultimately don’t wish you would make more because of this. Only that I can find people such as yourself who actually give a shit. A very belated happy birthday. And I wish you well

VOICESAVER.EXE Cinema is dead is a hell of a statement and runs parallel to a dinner table conversation I've had once a week for several weeks now. I agree with you that its the big studio take on film that's ailing and ailing badly, but I also extend the notion that its more than just cinema. Entertainment as a whole is experiencing similar, with the AAA video game market being the one I'm most aware of. My pet theory is tied to a distinction you alluded to: the difference between marketing a movie/game that you made, versus making a movie/game to be marketed. One is you trying to make a living off creative processes. The other is a cynical attempt to make money off of the simulacrum (you taught me that term!) of creativity. Ghostbusters comes to mind. The reboot was panned pretty hard because it was a movie made to be marketed. They checked off all the boxes in the "four corners" model of marketing to make a product that on paper should appeal to focus groups and....it was a mess. Then you had Ghostbusters Afterlife, which was made with genuine heart as a love letter to a colleague that had passed on and it shows. I've not seen much of anybody that praises the former, nor have I heard anybody shit on the latter. Or, TL;DR, the MBA is a blight that has tried to turn creativity into formula to manufacture money in short term at the destruction of long term and it lacks soul, to no one's surprise. It's why small indie outfits are increasingly the majority of media I enjoy these days, your work being among them. This is I guess a long winded way to say, keep the light alive, film isn't totally dead it's just gone underground in this lame cyberpunk dystopia of excessive corpo bullshit. We're waiting with patient excitement on my end and looking forward to premiere day, regardless of how long it takes. What matters is that you and the team are doing fantastic work from the heart, and thats worth more than any amount of budget.

Iden DeSeer

Happy birthday chummer.

GREETINGS TEX. Congratulations on the completion of another program. I have heard the quote, "Amateurs study strategy, professional study logistics." How does someone go about studying logistics? I have played Factorio but the application is somewhat limited.

The Great Ryanificus

Getting close. Hell yeah. [I can't break paragraphs due to being on my phone] Earlier in the year you recommended me Sturgill Simpson as an artist to listen to. Been listening to him a lot lately, among other bluegrass/country artists. Have you heard their new Passage Du Desir, from earlier this year? I didn't have a Country RnB song on my docket of things I expected to hear, and yet, it's wonderful. Unfortunately, the album's top single, Mint Tea, got me onto a tear trying to find bottle mint tea which is almost impossible to find around here anymore. Be well Tex! Looking forward to the premier.

Vendrette, The Postalmech

Always a pleasure to hear from you, sir. Throwing that trailer link everywhere I can get away with it. Slowly reeling in my brother in law with the lore of BattleTech, as he is a huge Warhammer 40K lore fiend. Just talking about ComStar set the hook good, now I'm just reeling him in. Good times. Cannot wait for the movie, joy of the day to you and yours, and Don't Let The Bastards Grind Ya Down.

Bolo Unit BRL of the Line

A wee bit belated but - Happy Birthday! Its a big milestone, but its just that, a marker along a road. One which you a travelling in your own way. You should be proud of yourself.

Gregorius

Hiya Tex, No question in particular, just stopping by to show some support. The trailer was fantastic, and I'm really looking forward to what you guys have made. You take care; that work week is insane. Please don't burn out on that.. (or anything else for that matter)

Erdanya

Howdy Tex, So Marc Miller apparently transferred the rights to Traveller to Mongoose Publishing. Some folks got an email about it today and theres been rumors since Sunday. Know anything or have any thoughts on this?

swiftdraw

Happy birthday! Gaining years brings with it experience. Bonus experience is gained going through hardships. If I could give you a hearty hug, I would. From my experience at this age perspective for life tends to evolve. Instead of the early life's "I wish I could do" changes to actually doing. Epiphany that age itself is not really stopping you. It is just that your body is just limited in its performance and the need to manage what you have available makes thinking before acting so much more important. Especially with tasks requiring strength and stamina. I've noticed this when working with traditional muscle powered woodworking tools. Being thoughtful before acting helps me save time, avoid mistakes and have a plan and this in turn saves my body in the long run. Those times I've gone over my limits I've regretted it later as not being able to work takes away from the time spent creating, thus joy. On a side note, I've been contemplating if I should try to craft furniture for my Remington 800 by myself. The stock on it is too short for me (Got it from my grand father. He was head shorter than me). Any recommendations on what I should read or know before committing to it?

Jenian Katarn

Happy Birthday Tex, I know you're not keen to celebrate but I hope you at least had a good meal with good friends. Here's to another jaunt around the sun *raises a glass to you.*

Drendar Morevo

Happy birthday, you lovable surat! You are my favorite freebirth in the entire Inner Sphere.

HAPP BIRTH

ketch me outside

Happy birthday Tex, have a cup of good coffee on us...do what you need to do, we will patiently wait for the new project in all its glory. So funny story from today and proof to me my youngest is a living shit post in the best way possible. I got back from the grocery store with her and she was hanging out in the living room with my wife. She was getting her shoes and socks off. My wife said her feet were stinky and they laughed...not more than 5 seconds go by and I hear my wife half yelling "Don't put your toes in your mouth, thats yucky!...WAIT THAT DOESN'T MEAN PIT ALL YOUR TOES IN YOUR MOUTH!!! GROSS!!! *gag noise*" I laughed real hard...to be fair this child I've affectionately nicknamed Squig. Hope you get a chuckle out of this. My dad-vice is this Get rest when you can, always do your best, and always do your best.

The Mailman

As always, Tex, you worry too much. We're proud of you, fucker.

Jacob Kurzer

Hey, Tex, I'm 46 and have asked myself some of those 40-something existential questions. I have decided that one of my greatest lessons has been experiencing failure. Because now I know it, I can recognize it, and I can avoid it. But most importantly: if all else fails and I can't avoid failure, I can put it into perspective and not let it ruin me. Resiliency really sucks to acquire but is a vital skill in this life. Have a...satisfying birthday.

Augy-WMEC906

Finally in a place where I can support the BPL. Thanks for all the years of comfy madness, it has seen me through the worst time of my life.

GillyMonster

Cinnabon is dead? Noooo! Not my cinnamon rolls!

dogsoneup

If it would make your life better maybe you should just make the BPL your job or at most profitable to point where it can support it's self and the time you put into? Any idea on when your going to cover a light mech? Will any other early tex talks videos get the urbanmech treatment?

Ryan Ulick

I think everyone who turns 40 has a war story. It’s basically something everyone goes through who lives to the age of 40. It’s a unique horror story that you realize huh I’m not young anymore and I’m going to die. But you know what you also have to remember, at that point what have you done to improve the world and make it a slightly less shitty place? And I think through your videos and BPL you’ve done a fair bit more than you think. So don’t worry about missing a deadline will all be here waiting.

Matthew Sobotka

Tex no need to use voice mode. As someone who has past 40 long ago, the 40s can be good! It is important to look back and learn but do not regret, that is only a way to keep a past hurt close at hand, let it go and heal. The part b of that is never forget what happened and who did what, they showed you who they are, believe them. Be well, happy birthday and thank you and the team for all the great work. Ohana

Jack Shepherd

Voice save mode Activate. Happy Birthday Tex, I'm running an intro session for Battletech Alpha Strike Aug 31 at my local game store in your honor. Glory to Van Zandt 🫡 Seyla

Nerd_Power

Tex, please save voice. No need to ever apologize ever. The only complaint I will ever have with BPL staff is that you guys work too hard and I wish you guys could do something for yourselves. I respect your opinions on it, I just wish all of you could go somewhere and relax and enjoy your hard work, even if it's just a local park and eat hot dogs. Until then, keep taking my money. Seyla 🫂 🤗

Happy Birthday

Speaking of creation and accomplishment’s - 1) to acknowledge a shitpost factory from my past - I love homestar runner. I found that my senior year in college (some time ago) and lost a week of my life to watching videos. 2) over covid when the world shut down I completed my childhood dream of learning to fly. A treasured memory of mine is taking my father to the airfield, to a hanger, and to an aircraft and his sudden realization there was no other person but him and I. “You’re going to fly this? He asks. “Yes I am.” I respond. The shit eating grin on his face was priceless. I have another flight with my daughter when she was 8, her first. Also priceless.

Kinoons

What I heard is that Tex wants a cotton candy machine for his birthday.

Maehock

Howdy Tex, the Dead Internet Theory is very much a true thing, I saw two bots just infinitely going back and forward. It was weird. The Mini-Remembrance is coming along, I have reduced the Mission Creep by deciding to amend it to just prior to just after the Clan Invasion instead of writing out a whole history for the unit. On the last day of a long ass series of jobs, and next Tuesday I'll be starting Async classes for Grad School, where I'll be studying for a Masters in Library and Information Sciences, so locking in for that, got some books incoming as well. Lastly, I managed to convince a Library to print an entire company of Parallax's Mechs, which was kind of them due to how long it took. I will spread the news and share the wonderful trailer, I am excited for Twycross, see you at the Front!

Grimos

Tex, I’m gonna say something that I think all of us devoted BPL members are thinking and I’m going to say it in the most loving yet strongest Dad-talk way possible. Long post, in your head. Kindly and thank you. Stop apologizing to us and stop feeling guilty about having to miss a deadline by a couple days because of life. This is the Black fucking Pants Legion Patreon. Not a Twitch or Onlyfans boobtube simp account. We are a bit more stable and reliable than that. You just said it last broadcast: you don’t make short, disposable cheap shit on a fixed schedule to drive clicks because screw the algorithm. You can’t in the same sentence rake yourself over the coals for missing a regular broadcast time because of extraordinary circumstances. You don’t get it both ways. I, and the rest of us based on comments, are *GLAD* you took a much needed personal day (evening?). We wish to hell you’d take a few more when needed. Now gimme five, brother. You keep kicking ass and taking bondsman on your own flexible schedule.

MrToBeNamedLater

If you move for a new job, will you be working less hours for the same or higher salary? If so, it may well be worth every iota of effort.

Vendrette, The Postalmech

Happy Birthday Tex, and remember... if you made it this far without any regrets, you've been doing it wrong.

Molly McAllister

I don't care if the internet is dead. THIS part of the internet, the non-mainstream part where "if you know, you know" is very much alive.

Adrian

Congratulations on surviving another Solar Orbit Mr. Tex. While we are certainly inundated with the generic and commercial at every turn, it is heartening that there will always be people like the Black Pants Legion. People who, wether through passion, integrity or just sheer insanity will create art that moves the heart and quickens the soul, rather than simply reaching into your wallet. While i think that you are often too hard on yourself, your humility and integrity earns you something that no amount of money ever will: Respect. I would simply entreat you to remember to look after your own well being with a well meant warning: You can create nothing if you are dead, and it would be a shame if that hard-earned soul left us behind too soon. I look forward to the movie, i expect it will not disappoint.

Ironguard

Save voice, save spirit. Didn't you change jobs so that you could have more time and a better work life balance? Your luck is like mine, it seems. Work life balance is so important that swathes of impostors make it their life goal to do as little as possible and gain as much as possible, whilst doing so. [I worked alongside my local politico's for almost 4 years, hope I didn't someone dox myself.] I ALSO, might have to move for a new job after the previous one proved to be another trap, that would dead end my career. The Twycross art you posted is US! The BPL! Back-to-back against the tides of shit [clanners, heh] thrown at us. It's very inspiring to be battle brothers.

Walt_Man

I have lower back fusion from s1 to l2, titanium rods and new bushings, knee replacement in near future, wife wants me to do lasik surgery. I swear she's trying to build the 6 million dollar man on a payment plan...

Tempest Crow

(You don't need to read this out) Speaking of Dead Internet Theory, I went down a rabbit hole trying to find anything I could off a bot account recently. That rabbit hole led to more rabbit holes, which opened into more, which led to organizations running interference for other organizations that link to an obscure Doomsday cult. As the yawning, cavernous abyss of bot shittery opened before me, as the despair driven by existential dread sunk its hooks into my very soul, there was still a small light. Friends, real people in my life I can rely on. Real people are going to be even harder to find going forward. The internet is going to be a more frightening place in the future, I think. All the more reason to appreciate what all of you at the BPL do.

Chrome

43 here. Spent my 40th in the hospital with the leg infection that damn near killed me that year. 41 was nicer. 42 kind of a mix. This year was solid, though. There were tacos! Get yourself a taco and some rest. Looking forward to the movie. :)

BZArcher (Blind Zen Archer)

Keep on Keepin’ On Or something cool like that. I’ve been enjoying the Arcanum play thru vids. I hate I missed that game. Looks like a lot of fun. Take Care 🍺🥃

RobinWhiteTX

(save voice) if the opening monologue was meant to tell me that working your ass off is the right path, Tex, it had the opposite effect. Not that I wanna buy into the bots. But you saying what you CAN say about your job? Made me go "Oh helllllll no". France is also dead. It's not political to say that: we all saw it happen. Trailer was awesome as expected. Glad I was finally able to send my mother another Tex Talks Poetry, as Batteltech is definitely not her interest. "I may have to move for a job" Good GOD, Tex. Well, if you have to, maybe at least you can move away from Mr Train. IF we didn't feel bad for you, Tex, we wouldn't be your community. I'm shocked you would even consider Word of Blake. Obligatory Canopus/Taurians video support. I will say lore videos are my preference over specific mech videos.

Jay McIntyre

Save your voice. We out here in the dark wasteland of whatever the hell the internet is becoming, we are all pulling for you. Hang in there. You keep a lot of us more sane than we'd be without you. Also, loving your Arcanum game. Good day sir.

OrphanMech

As someone who had dispatch from work call me on my personal phone asking me why I did not respond on the radio and can I check on a alarm two hours after I got home for the day yes work can suck. Good luck stay safe and my Marauder is ready to drop into hell to crush some fucking Claners Long Live Van Zandt

russell marsh

Listening just passed my 50th, you have time. Take it.

James Buchanan

No question, no response needed. Evening Tex! Happy early 40th. As someone who is only 10 months older, it was kind of a weird day for me. I hope yours is filled with friends and happiness.

Face Into Keyboard

One of my kids lives in Japan and he is a fan, so I know you have at least one.

Sarah JQ

Cotton candy does sound like a great idea at a shooting range!

Laird Stanard

Hey Tex worked my 40th as well... Respect

Arron Scholz

Happy early 40th Tex. Right on your heels. Working on the receiving end of what you do, it’s interesting to see the spikes in social stress here at home coincide with *gestures vaguely at global conflict* and balancing preparedness within my part of the organization and day to day life. Long live the weirdos. Long live the BPL.

Fashion comes. Fashion goes. Integrity is eternal. That is all. Keep it up!
