Welcome to the New era of Madness!

I answer all of the questions as best I can.

Comments

Being from Texas myself (only a couple of counties SW of Van Zandt!), on beans in chili. When I make chili at the house for family or friends, no beans. When making a giant pot of chili for a potluck or a lot of people, we're putting beans in it. Just saying. YMMV.

Hey Tex, just want to say thanks again to you and your team for all the amazing content. I’m usually part of the silent group that just likes to listen and lurk, but I wanted to reiterate my appreciation. I also have a question I wanted your opinion on. Unlike a lot of people I actually like the main theme song of Mech 5. A lot of people said it wasn’t as good as Mech 2 and that is fair. But I always find myself humming that guitar riff. Do I have shit taste? Lastly did you see the next DLC for Mech 5 will be the War of 3039. That’s pretty neat.

Hey Tex, When my son and I first discovered you back in 2019, we were pretty blown away about a lot of things. One was the information on BT, my son asked me what BT was all about. I just YouTubed it. You were streaming and low and behold you ware talking about the different houses, while walking some Atlas's up a hill in a game. We dove into you page and saw the BT play through and started to watch them. One particular one, the set I could say, you had other BPL members at your house. Like Digs was one of them. You all made predictions about the near future, I do understand you were all effing around, but they were real close to true, looking back. Scary, but true. I think it was around the holidays episodes. So, looking at your surroundings, Mr. Train, location redacted, and living on the moon. What do you see? With your Historian's lens? I by no means think you a profit, or some kind UBER (Fill in the Blank), just curious? If this is not something you don't want to answer, I get it. Odd question, I know! Pistol6699 P.S. When you see me online speaking in jibberous, it means I can't type, and spell even worse!!! lol

Pistol6699

Once again many thanks to the team and you. I've noticed the TTB video of the Awesome is missing. Is that a casualty of the hack or are you remaking the video to give it the documentary treatment? Also on you xenonauts stream (love those btw) you said the 46 was made from one thousand nine hundred eleven 1911s and was curious if they all required to be made in 1911 hence why they are so few? Anyways keep swinging 1 punch at a time.

Tex, as a certified (certifiable?) and practising Ferroequinologist, I can say with some authority that Mr Train will really appreciate it if you honk back at him when he calls. But more seriously, I've been following the Legion for some 4 years and love the content. Keep embracing the madness- It's fun to be vicariously weird with other weird folk.

I have not the skill of words to properly express the value, both in entertainment and personal philosophy, that i have obtained from the BPL's work. I've re-watched the Dr. Christmas episode at least 8 times by now, and the TTB videos more times than that each. I've laughed myself to the point of pain over the Magistratum Mundanus. I can say this though: Whatever Youtube tells you, your work is of a quality that they should be damned grateful to have on their platform. You may say that you are a D-rank creator, but when most everyone else flunked out years ago, that's still a high standard to have these days. I guess what i fundamentally mean to say is: Know that your hard work is appreciated, and that our support of it is well earned and well deserved.

Hey Tex, any updates on the Battletech audiobook you were working on?

Rebel Rebel

Hey Tex hope all is well or as well as things can be. By the time you read this I'll be on my way to poland for a large viking festival with 3 days of large scale fighting (800 fighters) and yes the weapons are blunted steel. I'll also be part of the contingent representing Canada. With that said I'll probably miss the next update. Something that has just blown my little monkey brain. In the Ameris civil war videos professor Tex uses the expression its on like Donkey Kong. Therefore one could deduce that Donky Kong is still very much around and played in the 3050's. Best of luck and we'll wishes to you and the team

F**king WEST POINT!!! Woop bastards! GO NAVY!

Tex, weaponized eggbeater was a new one. I always just said helos don't fly, they're so ugly the ground repels them. If you ever want to chat about the military industrial complex let me know, I work at the intersection of acquisition and test, as an active duty Airman with an office at a major defense contractor. Or if you ever do anything on Aerospace fighters; I've never used them in TT but I've spent my adult life in aviation in the real world so happy to add commentary. How does one join a think tank? I'm retiring from the USAF next year and need to figure out what I want to do when I grow up. Cheers!

Fuck yeah, cold war history is super interesting. Stories of crazy soviet BS and incredibly overinflated US weapons programs in response never get old.

Teyanis

I’m down for whatever project you and your team want to work on. My textbooks even in AP US History and admittedly low-level college courses were more written from the “End of History” standpoint that was prevalent in the 90’s having a discussion on it from folks with a different perspective on things will be valuable. If anything it’ll give me a few more books to add to the reading list.

Chris Stochaj

Have you considered a Tex Talks History where several smaller videos add up to a bigger whole? I’m thinking like something on, say, the Pinkerton Detective Agency where one program is their involvement US Civil War, the next program would be about Haymarket, the one after that Coeur d'Alene etc. You could break a big subject into bite size pieces where the whole is bigger than the some of it’s parts and small parts of the story get smaller videos. And then maybe in between you could sleep. Just a thought.

I appreciate you sharing your updates. Feeling excited and encouraged to listen to the design development. Been working to find self-worth in the art I craft, not the job which pays the bills. Your updates remind me to keep putting in the effort. No quit.

When conducting field research, how much research must be conducted in the field before your brain will accept that it isn't a holiday?

As a member of the community and the team mentioned, I feel it's worth mentioning that everything discussed in these updates rings true. The legion is a wonderfully supportive environment in which to work with folk. You just need to mention an interest in pretty much anything and your inbox will shortly be filled to bursting with messages pointing you in the direction of materials, offers to sit in a voice room for some one-on-one or invites to projects that people are planning or working on. It's a very special place for me and I am grateful for every person who appreciates the work that people are putting out. The contributions here sure keep the lights on, but the validation given by the community - at least for me - is what keeps some folk going. The simple act of acknowledging appreciation for something somebody made is enough to validate the time spent making it. Personally, I don't care about money. I have a 9-5 job I value that pays the bills and a little extra. I am happy. All I want from my time on earth is to spend it building a life worth dying for and the legion, along with my extracurricular activites has allowed me to explore that in many ways. It adds value and depth to my existence. When I am old and can't do the things and the stuff anymore, it's unspeakably edifying to be able to know I can look back on this time of my life and know I spent my time doing something gratifying with incredibly special people, in much the same way as an author writes a book or an artist makes sculpture. When we're gone, legacy remains. And that's a comfort. :) Peas out, homeslices - Spunky

Tex, as always, I remain a member of the (mostly) silent, yet supportive majority. Sometimes, when you're doing a good thing, just supporting it and not getting in the way is the best thing. As you've said before, you've got a fantastic group of people, skilled in all manner of abilities, who are the backbone of what creates the videos that we have come to love. When your efforts produce something of quality, it truly speaks for itself...that, and the fact that I have absolutely no problem going back for the umpteenth time to watch and listen to the storied history of the Baron and how it applies to the creation of the Warhammer...or how the 'God damned Black Watch' haunted Amaris to the end of his days. When you do something that good, you want to enjoy it over and over again. That's quality! And don't put down your own efforts. In your opinion, your voice may not command the attention of say...an opera singer, but to us Tex Talks Battletech fans, you ARE the voice of Battletech. And Mr. Train always helps to round out the cast. So as far as I'm concerned, I don't have to second-guess myself at the end of the month. My Patreon donation will continue to support the efforts of you and your team.

MarauderTDL

Dear Tex and Team, thank you for all your efforts. I appreciate your content so much to the point that I've listened to many "Talks" several times, thank you. My question, if HBS made a Battletech 2, what 'Mech that didn't make it into the stock game (or DLCs) would you want to see included in the sequel?

Drendar Morevo

Dudebro, you do a musical, you let me know. I'm in.

Korehammer

Tex Talks Dynamic Sound I've been in the Aux discord, but nobody, especially your hardworking crew, wants some blowhard who can't shut up about what projects *should* be done. Not *when*, I get you on that one, but *what*. If I could add constructively I would. That being so I limit myself to the commentary I make here and on da youtoob vids. Successful colonies on other planets will develop their own ethnicities and cultures over time, which will clash with old Earth. Your own analogy shows this, a new culture forms, but it tries to make itself distinct and consistent as much as history allows, just as the old one does.

Love these updates Tex. Always the highlight of my week. Seyla

Good to hear from you as always, Tex. I'm actually part of a grand campaign that's starting up in my local store for Alpha Strike. Got a map of the IlClan Era Inner Sphere and everything, with us playing Alpha Strike matches for map hexes. Taking my Northwind Highlanders to have a nice gentlemanly chat with House Kurita on behalf of the Davions in the finest traditions of the Borders. Which is to say I intend to steal everything that isn't nailed down and put to the torch everything that is. Because New Avalon doesn't belong to you, House Weeaboo, and I'll burn a path to Luthien if I have to.

While Tex Talks Battletech may not be their cup of tea, have you looked at CuriosityStream or Nebula for Tex Talks History? Documentary content is their jam and they may be kinder for your format than YouTube.

Howdy tex, been a bit, probably gonna bullet point things. 1) I generally get most video and streaming notifications but never the community post, I usually check whenever I'm on, loving the poetry and since TTH YouTube has decided I must be into true crime. How strange 2) I feel the hallmark of good chili is its viscosity, if it's not thick enough your spoon stands straight up its generally(but not always) been meh to bad 3) I feel like the hunchback probably hunts mechs for sport, just gives that vibe. And finally l, my 5e game has decided they wanna try shadowrun 2e and I think the beeple motors chromeboi is a terrific vehicle to have them try to recover, many questions about that one but I don't wanna monopolize your time, you're a busy man after all and it's humbling you even do this, cheers!

Urchin

The updates are appreciated as always, I feel like some people are missing the mark when they expect your videos to be blapped out at a higher frequency than they are. If anyone who creates anything watches the videos the love and care of them team is brought to the forefront for all to witness. I would rather have the videos done to your standard of done compared to good-enough for public consumption. Again....the promo video said "when you are done" i can wait and enjoy it while I'm out working with it blaring in my pocket and then I'll watch it when I get home. As always thanks yo you and the team.

One of my favorite quotes of all time is as follows: "Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or fucking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back."
