Determined to fill in the literary gaps of my rural education I have been consuming many “classic” works that were “discouraged” by my conservative upbringing. To that end I picked up 1984 for the first time and was struck by the similarities of the philosophy of “War is Peace” and the stagnation of technology and social advancement pervasive in the Succession Wars. Do you think this is a coincidence or a deliberate choice by the writers of the setting and are there any real world parallels that come to mind?

As someone who has struggled with depression his whole life, as someone who has been pretty broke now and then- hearing your frank and honest discussions about going through both were nice. I feel like discussing our painful moments is something that helps other people realize that they're not as alone, because someone else has stubbed their toe on the same existential coffee table. You might not ever meet that person. It might just be letters on the page of a diary. But in that moment of shared experience, you're not alone. You're part of the same Tribe. On a lighter note- I play SS14 with y'all, and it's easily one of the highlights of my week. But I'm kind of curious what goes into setting it all up, and what it's like to admin a game. It would be fun if you had Digs and a few other admins on the podcast sometime to talk about playing SS14 from the other side.
