Extended Play Lounge Episode 6 - Poll (Round 1)
Added 2021-10-08 21:01:56 +0000 UTCHello all. It's time to start voting for the next Extended Play Lounge. Pink Floyd and Haken make it into this round of polling due to their 2nd and 3rd place finish last time. The three new bands are all more modern prog bands that I've enjoyed recently: Spock's Beard, Transatlantic, and Marillion.
This poll is dropping on October 8. We'll run this round through the 11th. Then, we'll pick an album (or other extended listen) from the winning band.
Happy voting!

Thanks, Dr. Doug, for this ongoing Extended Play Lounge series ... thoroughly enjoying it! Although I voted for "Animals" , I won't be at all disappointed if WYWH wins.

2021-10-13 20:29:06 +0000 UTCFloyd it is then, I guess. Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall would all be good options. I'm with Steven Wilson when it comes to Dark Side - he declined to talk about it on his Album Years podcast because there was nothing he could say about it that hadn't already been said!
Nick
2021-10-13 20:14:21 +0000 UTCTransatlantic - Stranger in your soul! Preferably the studio version ❤️ For me this song has everything and it is my number 1 favorite of all time 😃
2021-10-13 17:47:11 +0000 UTCTransatlantic - The Whirlwind would be epic!
2021-10-13 04:20:44 +0000 UTCEarly Marillion with Fish as lead singer. Pink Floyd Animals (any song - they're all good).
Ron Cook
2021-10-12 17:19:13 +0000 UTCDon't knock the old bands. Several of them are still around and even producing new stuff (even if they don't get airplay like they ought to), Yes is a recent example.
Great Scott
2021-10-12 08:38:31 +0000 UTCI think Pink Floyd's The Wall and Darkside are main stream for me. I'd prefer to hear a reaction to Wish You Were Here or Animals. Imho
Bryan Tursk
2021-10-11 21:00:03 +0000 UTCYou're not alone. Count me in on Atom Heart Mother too 😊.
Nick
2021-10-11 05:20:36 +0000 UTCI’m rotating in newer bands in the polls…it’ll balance out.
R. Douglas Helvering
2021-10-10 18:52:40 +0000 UTCI’d love to see a reaction that includes both versions. Although, I don’t know if Harrison’s copyright holder is a noted blocker?

2021-10-10 18:50:33 +0000 UTCI have a suggestion to make.i do see that a lot of the people on here like the old prog, and i do too,but i do believe its ruining the chance of listening to the newer progressive bands.how about dividing the old and new,so you can vote between old and new seperatly.one time vote between old,and next time new.by doing it this way you dont have to wait several months to get a listen to some newer stuff🙂

2021-10-10 17:11:46 +0000 UTCI have always liked Atom Heart Mother best of all the PF albums but seems to be alone on that 😁
2021-10-10 07:54:55 +0000 UTC"Atom Heart Mother" And you get the bonus of hearing one of the best recorded albums of the period, sound wise. My import copy is anyways.
Rhesus Perplexus
2021-10-10 02:11:32 +0000 UTCSince it looks like PF is running away with it, I'm thinking "Animals" or "Atom Heart Mother" might be fun...
Martin Broten
2021-10-09 23:16:36 +0000 UTCTBH, I'd be very happy to hear Doug's take on any of the above, they're all great bands and well worth listening to.
Sian Podmore
2021-10-09 17:03:12 +0000 UTCI really just want to see Doug dissect Atom Heart Mother, the orchestral parts are so good and there really is no one else with this level of insight on youtube.
2021-10-09 15:09:40 +0000 UTCDark Side is always a great one to go with... or The Wall..
Scott Friedman
2021-10-09 15:05:14 +0000 UTCTake the plunge.. SNOW by Spock's Beard.. Need a good concept album, the Lamb was great, eh?
Arpeggio Blues
2021-10-09 14:40:17 +0000 UTCAbsolutely!
Arpeggio Blues
2021-10-09 14:38:02 +0000 UTC"All of the Above".
Lars
2021-10-09 12:32:15 +0000 UTCPink Floyd, while undeniably brilliant, are sooo yesterday. Transatlantic please!
Mark Marriott
2021-10-09 11:07:05 +0000 UTCFor me Atom Heart Mother is the only PF effort worth reaction video
Artur Kinal
2021-10-09 09:50:38 +0000 UTCTransatlantic. Or Marillion. Do we really need a Pink Floyd reaction? Everyone knows them, and nothing really complicated to test Dr Doug.
Paul Lowder
2021-10-09 09:40:40 +0000 UTCHaken pretty please
Khaled Akbik
2021-10-09 07:59:25 +0000 UTCGo MARILLION go….😀😀a nice weekend to all folks
christoph ziesecke
2021-10-09 04:56:31 +0000 UTCDefinitely hoping for Animals if PF wins
Jason Gregorius
2021-10-09 04:23:25 +0000 UTCI really want you to hear you break down Karn Evil 9 all three impressions by ELP soon. Such a monster composition.
Brian Pate
2021-10-09 03:42:54 +0000 UTCTransatlantic. On my way to see the Neal Morse Band at the Morsefest 2021.
Frank Canepa
2021-10-09 00:31:00 +0000 UTCThe studio tracks off Ummagumma are not Floyd's finest hour...
Garance A Drosehn
2021-10-09 00:30:42 +0000 UTCToo many choices. Not fair. Lol
David Miller
2021-10-09 00:06:43 +0000 UTCSame same same!
Gary Thobaben
2021-10-09 00:06:18 +0000 UTCI vote for Spock’s Beard. The V record is amazing, although you’ve already heard at the end of the day. Really I just want a The Great Nothing react!
Gary Thobaben
2021-10-09 00:05:24 +0000 UTCI have looked in to this issue, and the short answer is that, sadly, there’s really nothing I can do about it. The polling feature on my end doesn’t give any real controls besides creating the poll itself. Hopefully, we can all play along and make it work.
R. Douglas Helvering
2021-10-09 00:01:57 +0000 UTCThis voting is still not fixed, I just voted for all the bands listed again this go round and they all counted. Doug might need to look into this. It's obviously not as critical as an election vote but still it should be as accurate as possible.
Ron Swirson
2021-10-08 23:58:13 +0000 UTCAnimals or Wish You Were Here would be great PF choices. Or, coming off Fragile, maybe Ummagumma, which similarly has solo tracks by each band member. Meddle would be a top choice, too, but Doug has already done Echoes from that album (though he did a live version).
Richard Moore
2021-10-08 23:24:19 +0000 UTCtrnsatlantic the first cd smpt
Len Bimeal
2021-10-08 23:09:14 +0000 UTCI voted for PF here. Animals or Piper at the Gates of Dawn would be my picks. Piper is obviously more disjointed than Animals.
Matthew Hackbert
2021-10-08 23:08:30 +0000 UTCMost have not but should give Crack or Ambrosia a long listen.
Glenn Wimberly
2021-10-08 21:47:12 +0000 UTCVoted for Pink Floyd -- and hopefully not "The Wall" (not a big fan). As far as Haken goes, I'd love to do Richard Henshall's solo album "The Cocoon". Love that album. Also, would like Kate Bush's "Hounds of Love/The Ninth Wave"...well...anywhere (here or on the YouTube).
Martin Broten
2021-10-08 21:43:37 +0000 UTC3 modern Prog choices. Tough to choose, but since there isn't a large number of classical Prog bands here, I think Pink Floyd is going to win in a landslide.
Arrow2theACL
2021-10-08 21:40:47 +0000 UTCThey have come in 2nd or 3rd on the last 3-4 polls. He'll get to an extended play one day.
Arrow2theACL
2021-10-08 21:39:00 +0000 UTCDoug soon please poll on ambrosia album one or two , or Crack the sky, animal motet, safety in numbers or nuclear apathy. Also try Fish out of water by. Chris Squire.
Paul t hebert
2021-10-08 21:35:28 +0000 UTCDepends on which Floyd album. Ummagumma isn’t very mainstream, for example.
Randy Hammill
2021-10-08 21:34:10 +0000 UTCAs much as I like Transatlantic and Pink Floyd I just had to choose Spock's Beard this time. 😊
Zsuzsanna Vázsonyi
2021-10-08 21:17:46 +0000 UTCSpock's Beard "Beware of Darkness" An Epic Classic.....and they Reinterpret George Harrison's tune.
Paul Mouradjian
2021-10-08 21:15:45 +0000 UTCisn't Pink Floyd kind of mainstream for a "reaction" video? 🤔
2021-10-08 21:13:50 +0000 UTC... a little odd to see Haken listed here, given that *today's* video was a song from Haken.
Garance A Drosehn
2021-10-08 21:13:42 +0000 UTCGotta be Transatlantic
Bill C
2021-10-08 21:12:41 +0000 UTCDefinitely Dark Side of the Moon deserves a reaction
Juan Ignacio Quesada
2021-10-08 21:12:35 +0000 UTCI'd love to hear a commentary on "Dogs" by Pink Floyd, but I voted for Marillion because there are several different songs which I think would be a great choice for this channel.
Garance A Drosehn
2021-10-08 21:12:31 +0000 UTCHoping for Pink Floyd on this poll. Cheers to Friday y'all
Bryan Tursk
2021-10-08 21:11:20 +0000 UTCAlmost went with BBT!
R. Douglas Helvering
2021-10-08 21:11:07 +0000 UTCSurely the answer is Clutching at Straws? It's more awesome than something that is awesoMe with a capital M.
John Clark
2021-10-08 21:10:05 +0000 UTCGoing to have to add Magenta and Big Big Train to the band vote list one of these days.
Dennis Rees
2021-10-08 21:08:24 +0000 UTCI am gonna suggest Larks Tongues in Aspic or Red by King Crimson for a future poll!
2021-10-08 21:07:50 +0000 UTCSo that's Pink Floyd then Transatlantic confirmed early doors.
Andrew Lamont
2021-10-08 21:05:29 +0000 UTCDon’t forget early Queen, Doug, especially Orge Battle
Jeannine Doyle
2021-10-08 21:04:50 +0000 UTCGotta vote for Marillion, but choosing the album (out if those first 4 with Fish) is the tough part!
