Fan Favorites - Road Trip Songs POLL

The 18 options below are the selections that have made it through the first round of recommendations and up-voting. For the Golden Earring and Allman Brothers choices, I'm including 2 songs each. This is due to strong voting for all these choices.

So, your task is to choose your TOP FIVE...vote for up to five of these selections to make it into the Fan Favorites video at the end of the month.

I'll be including the top 10 in our upcoming video. The polling is active through Saturday, June 25. Happy voting!

Yeah, "road trip" seems pretty specific. Something like "Boys of Summer" or "Steppin Out". Maybe some yacht rock. I just wanted to hear Doug's reaction to High Hopes at some point anyway.

Music is about the sound, regardless of lyrics’ meaning or speculated meaning. The sounds of music strike a feeling from every track, cord or note. This obviously includes the sound that comes from the words sung, but there is no need to get hung up on the lyrics. Riders is an awesome groove for driving without them, but Morrison’s voice adds to that groove quite well, regardless of the lyrics. Vocalists phrasing, cadence and quality, make up sound as an instrument would. By-the-way, none of these songs had to be about driving, riding or any other form of travel. It just had to be something you would listen to WHILE on a road trip. Take a drive and groove to your groove.

Yeah, I also don't see Lady Fantasy as a road trip song. I considered not voting just because of the theme, but after analyzing the list I still decided to vote for it, just because it's one of my most beloved prog songs.

Riders on the Storm? I'm not sure that's a trip to be traveling on...!

I explained on the Discord why I suggested High Hopes as a roadtrip song and why I think it's a great roadtrip song. Obviously you are allowed to disagree and not vote for it. I think it has a place there and I'm glad it's doing well.

There are some on this list that have been 'over-played' on the air.. like "radar love" never understood why that was so popular; never liked it.. nor other songs over played to the point of exhaustion. Where are we going with these choices, people, I mean really.

Arpeggio Blues

I am so glad I listened to Big Big Train Wassail on the Megan Kegger. I had never heard of this band before the Daily Doug. Such a beautiful song. It was really hard to pick 5. I don’t think my U2 suggestion is going to make it through but that’s ok. There are at least 5 other songs on here I would love to hear on a road trip. Our group made such great suggestions!

I like "Running Down a Dream" a lot, but when it comes to Tom Petty and "road trip songs", I think his album "Highway Companion" includes some songs which are great for a road trip. I realize those songs didn't show up in early voting in Patreon, but I'll mention the album if only for Doug and Megan's own road trips this summer!

I did vote for "Lady Fantasy" because I think it's a great song, but I'll admit that I don't really see it as a song for road trips. Maybe that's why there are fewer votes for it than you'd expect.

Thanks for the Golden Earring double shot chance, Dr. Doug!

Camel is doing very well, and there’s a lot of support for them in the community.

The entire "Moontan" album by Golden Earring is worth a listen. Radar Love is about the weakest song on the album. No bad songs. All memorable classics.

MrWondrous David Beckwith

It's currently in the 8th position and he's doing the top 10. Unless things change drastically in the coming days it will be in.

Riders on the Storm - a wonderful song... and rated at #1 :-)

Oliver Kogler Kommunikata

This is now our play list for when we arrive in France for our Holiday! Thanks guys. :D

I really don't understand how a song like Camel's Lady Fantasy is so low on votes. I am starting to lose any hopes I had to see Camel featured in your channel Doug.

So pleased to see a list that I can select the maximum number on, but have done with 7 choices, it was difficult to choose which ones to leave off
