Freeways by BTO is always near the top of my Road Trip list, even above Highway Star. As is one I suspect few will know - Ieya by Toyah.

Adrian Goodrich

Re High Hopes, there is a line second from last 'The Endless River' this is the title of an album released after Richard Wright died. I think David Gilmore put together some odd recordings of Richards both Pink Floyd never used or his own demos if you listen you can hear some Pink Floyd snippets.

Michael Brown

Enjoyed the road trip songs, but obviously was not on the same thinking as others, I don’t view road trip songs as themed on driving, my take is generally songs that I like and my wife will as well, if my wife sings along it’s usually a good one for the list. I’m not a sociable person, my wife is, so I use the time to think, my wife uses it to socialise. I do my best work on road trips, gives me time to switch off and think. A very famous song was written by me on a road trip, but I’m going to keep you all in the dark.

Good video! I urge you to give Mirage by Camel a listen all the way through, Doug. It's a great album and my personal favourite of theirs.

Ole Martin

Or another John Garcia project: Unida's "Black Woman" The whole "Coping with the Urban Coyote" album has such a beautifully saturated, FAT guitar sound that sounds like a revved up V8.

Olavi Lorenz Jussi

Kyuss' Thumb (personal favourite) or Green Machine (the classic choice) would have been great heavier selections for this listing! If I ever get the chance to ride through the US west coast on a muscle car, desert rock will be IMPERATIVE, lol!

Olavi Lorenz Jussi

I second Highway Star, definitely! A major omission, indeed!

Gerard Dion

Thanks, Simon. Welcome! Make sure you get connected with our discord...lots of great stuff there.

R. Douglas Helvering

I'd rather not, thanks.

Newbie here - could I suggest you might try Folksong Crisis parts 1 and 2 by Seafood. It is so good it made me stop my car to listen to it the first time I heard it. Thanks

Simon

I really appreciate that we have a voice in what gets chosen to play. I'm not sure, but I think that may be unique to what you do, Doug. It's fun to be a part of it and fun to hear what other people enjoy. Great choices, all!

Thom P

The official video for "Twilight Zone" was very popular on MTV at the time, and during that long-ish instrumental section there's enough going on in the video that the section does not seem too long.

Garance A Drosehn

Highway Star by Deep Purple should've been here

John B

Love it. Although, I would've included Red Barchetta as well LOL. Doug, you need to take a road trip to Albuquerque. We'd love to have you and Megan to enjoy some SW hospitality by way of NJ and Seattle. :)

Tom Brophy

Good stuff!

GM Jim

I know not to share the video, but can we share the audio playlist?

Illume Eltanin

Thanks, Doug -- this came out with perfect timing to set the mood for my own road trip starting tomorrow (Kings Canyon, Yosemite/Tioga Pass, Reno, and Lone Pine). Enjoyed this video very much!

Richard Moore

Small nitpick, the Tom Petty solo album you mentioned was "Full Moon Fever" (not just "Moon Fever")

BRIAN MILLER

No apologies needed...ever! We appreciate you Doug -- all your hard work and dedication to the channel and bringing us such joy! Thank you for EVERYTHING! Have a fantastic holiday weekend!
