POLL: Pick the next Extended Play Lounge
Added 2024-09-27 21:19:11 +0000 UTCThese five albums have been on the master list for quite some time, and I am still interested in all of these albums. Only Marillion has been featured in an EPL previously, and that was Misplaced Childhood very early on.
So, which album should we listen to first?

2024-10-03 01:38:59 +0000 UTCOnce. Alice in Chains with Dirt, and Metallica with The Black Album.

2024-10-02 06:41:15 +0000 UTCOh, if only one person had voted the other way and we could have had a dead heat! Has there ever been one yet?

2024-10-01 20:03:32 +0000 UTCNow that’s a close call 😄 Happy with the result 👍

2024-10-01 18:26:55 +0000 UTCTHAT was a tough one. This one's going to be an adventure, Doug!

2024-10-01 16:45:36 +0000 UTCAND THE WINNER IS... Van Der Graaf Generator...by two votes!
R. Douglas Helvering
2024-10-01 15:15:35 +0000 UTCSo, Muse and VDGG got the same percentage. My initial choice was The Flower Kings, but seeing them hovering last, I switched to VDGG. I’m curious who won!

2024-10-01 07:21:34 +0000 UTCStay tuned. I’m working on a music club presentation for Be. 🤘💕

2024-10-01 04:26:27 +0000 UTCBE would be right up your alley. One of the great prog metal albums ever!

2024-09-30 14:34:38 +0000 UTCAll 5 albums are very good to great, but I have to with one of my favorite and most orginal bands of all, Van der Graaf Generator.
Jean-Michel LaFontaine
2024-09-29 19:48:40 +0000 UTCbrave every day, awesome album

2024-09-29 18:54:13 +0000 UTCConsidering the degree to which Marillion has impacted Doug, it seems almost negligent that Brave has not been featured yet. It is not the easiest listen, the subject matter is emotional and dark to be sure, but there are simply no comparable works that were released in the 90s and I'm very comfortable placing Brave in the pantheon of the great concept albums of all time. "The Great Escape medley" is a powerful piece standing alone, in context it is gut-wrenching and impossible to absorb without a fountain of tears. As to the others on the list, Muse is Muse, solid band with solid work in the sophisticated pop/rock world; Stardust We Are is certainly, for me, the pinnacle of The Flower Kings; the other entries are simply not my cuppa. Brave is chapter one in the great Marillion Trilogy that includes "Afraid of Sunlight" and "This Strange Engine" - a trio that stands tall among all of the best three album runs ever.
Christopher Arters (relative timeworx - Mr.A)
2024-09-29 13:29:36 +0000 UTCMaybe one day Doug will create a "losers" round of votes? But don't worry, Pain of Salvation will surely be on the playlist sooner or later.

2024-09-29 10:10:03 +0000 UTCTruly one of the greatest albums created! Still remains as my #2 all time. Everytime I see it come on a poll I get excited!! One day Doug will BE a fan too.
Daniel Andrews
2024-09-29 00:55:59 +0000 UTCBrave by Marillion is one of the best prog albums of the 90s. It’s best listened to in one go, loud, with the lights off. There’s great individual tracks, but the whole thing is the way to go! If Doug has an LP I wonder if he has one with the random ending?
Digibirder
2024-09-28 18:46:03 +0000 UTCSo do I, but Muse seems to be pulling ahead with a narrow margin!
Tim van der Leeuw
2024-09-28 15:05:43 +0000 UTCThe problem is that PoS is not so well known, and therefore has always no chance. And that is loss for all of us. But the hope dies as last. So BE it.
Uwe Schiller
2024-09-28 14:39:44 +0000 UTCThat is my absolute favourite VDGG album so there's no doubt in my mind which one gets my vote!
Tim van der Leeuw
2024-09-28 13:46:00 +0000 UTCI'm torn between Muse and VDGG. But Muse gets my vote if only because I feel they deserve more exposure on this channel.

2024-09-28 13:42:16 +0000 UTCMarillion for me.
Heather Hannon
2024-09-28 10:26:00 +0000 UTCI’m no Muse fan so it’s Marillion for me
Karl Stubsjoen
2024-09-28 10:05:11 +0000 UTCMuse for me. Great album and one of my favourite favourite bands🙂

2024-09-28 07:41:28 +0000 UTCI'm so glad Pain Of Salvation's BE is again on the poll. This is definitely their album to listen totally fresh :)

2024-09-28 00:37:30 +0000 UTCHidrogen to Helium for the win!
Jack R.
2024-09-27 23:54:40 +0000 UTCHas to be VdGG. We're going to get "House With No Door", one way or another. The most strikingly beautiful, bring-you-to-your-knees accurate take on manic depression I've ever heard. Although this should be no surprise from the genius mind of ph.
Tom (the soggy one)
2024-09-27 22:41:22 +0000 UTCI love how well H to He is doing!

2024-09-27 22:26:26 +0000 UTCNot for me, thanks.
George Davis-Stewart
2024-09-27 22:22:17 +0000 UTCOh god, Be and H to He on the same poll. That tears me apart. Well I'm going for my fav band VdGG this time, but I really hope for Be some day, it's been too long in the master list (essentially since this list was born). P.S. surprised Brave isn't doing that well in this poll, I would have imagined this to be a real favourite in here.

2024-09-27 22:21:21 +0000 UTCVoting for Absolution. Yes, I am a progger, but I am also a huge Muse fan, and they deserve their first EPL! It's about time! I hope you get into the other ones as well soon, dear Doug :)

2024-09-27 22:19:06 +0000 UTCRooting for Flower Kings! Though all of these are good choices. (BE would probably be the most interesting reaction)
Ken Robinson
2024-09-27 22:15:53 +0000 UTCListened to all for the first time. Absolution resonated with me the most. Several good choices.
Philly Paul
2024-09-27 22:01:28 +0000 UTCMuse, because I only know a couple hits, plus what Doug has reacted to.
Matthew Hackbert
2024-09-27 21:47:41 +0000 UTCFlower Kings, but it doesn’t seem likely

2024-09-27 21:46:35 +0000 UTCCurious how on the main page, the poll shows a certain set of preliminary results, but if you open the page for the post itself, a different set of results is seen.

2024-09-27 21:41:04 +0000 UTCVDGG will be the most interesting/challenging

2024-09-27 21:36:52 +0000 UTCI only know of VDGG and Marillion, lol. If neither of them wins then I will learn about a new band.
