POLL: Pick the next Extended Play Lounge
Added 2024-11-01 18:51:34 +0000 UTCHi y'all!
For the next EPL, I'm putting five artists/bands in the poll that have not yet been featured here. I don't know much about any of these albums...and they represent an array of musical styles!
So...choose your favorite! Voting will close on Sunday, Nov. 3.

As always the last place is the best... Violator is a guaranteed top tier album for the ages

2024-11-03 22:44:43 +0000 UTCNo probs with SFTBC. Would have been my choice, had not the superb Jailbreak been a very special part of my musical history. Doug has done real good, though, with this SO difficult choice?

2024-11-03 21:02:53 +0000 UTCRaoul and the Kings of Spain is my favourite Tears For Fears album album but all their stuff is great imho.

2024-11-03 18:34:47 +0000 UTCAs of right now the leading album has less than 30% of the vote. Which means that, potentially, up to 70% of people voting would rather hear any of the other albums.

2024-11-03 16:13:16 +0000 UTCJust about ready to hear Sting; the others are out of my times.

2024-11-03 10:26:57 +0000 UTCWow - this is actually one of the hardest selections ever presented for me in this forum. Mainly because the two selections I'm considering are so completely different: Jailbreak and Dream Of Blue Turtles. The former is a huge 70s staple whose deep tracks far outshine it's big hit and the latter established without a doubt that Sting was an artist whose range vastly eclipsed even the super group he just emerged from. Both albums place very highly in my personal top 10. I think I'll go with Jailbreak, because I figure if it doesn't get in now, it never will - while the Sting album will certainly be included in a future edition.

2024-11-02 14:43:58 +0000 UTCNothing Like The Sun is also great🙂

2024-11-02 14:24:55 +0000 UTCIt won’t win but Violator is phenomenal, from the first song to the last. If you listen to this album, and if you’re not dancing around, you need to get with a Doc…😁😁😁

2024-11-02 04:02:46 +0000 UTCNo love for The Hurting? Just about my fav in that genre.

2024-11-02 03:24:48 +0000 UTCYou ain’t right making us choose only one. I’m an 80’s synth pop kid at heart and making me choose between Songs From the Big Chair and Violator hurts my soul Bro.

2024-11-01 23:12:19 +0000 UTCSo torn between Thin Lizzy and Depeche Mode. Went with Lizzy this time, but DM is a great artist that I hope Doug hears soon.

2024-11-01 20:37:33 +0000 UTCAlso think Seeds of Love would be a better Tears album, so voted for Sting

2024-11-01 20:29:28 +0000 UTCTear for Fears for me. It was a choice between sting and Tears for Fears, and Songs From the Big Chair is the culmination of their early work and only Seeds of Love competes as their best work. There are a number of Sting albums that are worthy of an EPL as far as I'm concened, but I took the opportunity to get on EPL one of only two Tears for Fears albums I would vote for. All these albums are very good, so I don't mind if it goes another way.

2024-11-01 19:59:37 +0000 UTCps. The first band I COULD have seen live was Genesis, at DeMontfort Hall 1973. Muppet here had not yet discovered them (I was 15) and turned the (cheap) ticket offer down. That concert was recorded, and issued as "Genesis Live". Grrrrrrrrrr!

2024-11-01 19:49:15 +0000 UTCSome interesting albums there, I think you'd (Doug that is) find "side 2 " of The Big Chair quite interesting with it's extended tracks and operatic additions.

2024-11-01 19:41:40 +0000 UTCInteresting selection ! Thin Lizzy was the very first band I ever saw live. Leicester DeMontfort Hall, early 1976, on the "Jailbreak" tour. I own the original 1976 vinyl, and it remains my favourite TL album. So, much as I really like STFBC (also owned) and like the first two (not heard the Sting one) it HAS to be Jailbreak for me.

2024-11-01 19:22:47 +0000 UTCThe selections that don't win remain on the list and will be up for another poll or Doug's choice down the line.

2024-11-01 19:20:01 +0000 UTCI want Depeche Mode, but so far not many votes. Either them or Tears For Fears.
Andrew Marsh
2024-11-01 19:17:50 +0000 UTCCame here to say this. They get my vote but The Seeds of Love is where it’s at!
Gary Thobaben
2024-11-01 19:10:38 +0000 UTCNever was a fan of Tears for Fears, but felt they had well-crafted songs that were musically complicated and melodic. Love to see Doug delve into that band.
Sid Levy
2024-11-01 19:05:21 +0000 UTCIf we are talking Tears for Fears, "Everyone Loves a Happy Ending" is my favorite. I know the 80's albums are the classics but man Happy Ending has a ton of varying songs with more production going on.

2024-11-01 19:02:57 +0000 UTCOh, easy decision... Depeche Mode. Violator is an excellent album. Not familiar with REM and Sting works, TFF is a good album and I'm not a fan of Thin Lizzy.
Einaras Sipavičius
2024-11-01 19:01:38 +0000 UTCWould love to see some Tears for Fears content! Songs from the Big Chair is great, but I really have a soft spot for The Seeds of Love. Just great music!
Alexander Grenon
2024-11-01 18:59:55 +0000 UTCI'll vote for which album I want Doug to analyze *first*. I can't vote for Dream of the Blue Turtles over Songs from the Big Chair or vote for Songs from the Big Chair over Dream of the Blue Turtles. They are both masterful albums worthy of a segment. The losers don't get deleted from their spot on the master list, right?
Robert Thornton
2024-11-01 18:59:05 +0000 UTCTears For Fears gets my vote but only slightly over Sting. REM album great too🙂

2024-11-01 18:58:05 +0000 UTCOoooh. Sting! Any sting album would be awesome. 10 summoners tales is the benchmark though.
