POLL: Pick the next Extended Play Lounge

For our final EPL of the year, I'm asking you to pick among some of the best rock and prog albums of 2024. All of these musicians have become personal favorites of mine, and I'm up for a full album listen from any of these great options. Which one would you like for me to review first?

Comments

Next poll with Nightwish, but this time it has to be Opeth. ;)

Berniyh

BBT and Yes fans, time to flip those votes to David Gilmour 🤘home stretch! Do it for rock!! 😁

Bubbalino

Yet again Nightwish are languishing and don't deserve to be!....All you Prog-Heads out there, check them out and give them a vote! ;-)

Matt B

I'd seriously check Nightwish out if youre into Rock/Metal....they've been around for over 25 years and their music is awesome! :-)

Matt B

Didn’t vote for BBT only because Doug has heard it. I have heard the other choices except Opeth, so I will give it my vote. I would like to have seen Neal Morse’s latest album in the poll. I quite enjoyed it.

Mark L

Would have been BBT in any other situation. But cannot be anything other than David Gilmour. I confess to being staggered at just how good this album is. And a great group of musicians.

Adrian Goodrich

correct...Monday evening.

R. Douglas Helvering

Usually on Monday evening

Berniyh

Here too. Best album of 2024.

Andrew Marsh

Correct me if I am wrong. I think Doug reacted to at least some of his new album on YT and then listened to more in a council hangout? But I do remember Doug saying he listened to all of it.

Arrow2theACL

Steve Hackett’s new album misses out. Strong competition here though..

Richard Stoney

Check out Doug’s back catalogue. He’s done loads, but never an EPL (Imaginarum deserves one the most).

Richard Stoney

IMO, this is one of the best prog/metal albums in the last 10-15 years. The quality of musicianship on there is next level. Every instrument is played at very high standard, including the vocals. clean or not. Not many musicians could pull this off as a cohesive band.

Jean-Michel LaFontaine

Just curious, when does this poll end?

Fort-Man

Have sampled these and decided to refrain from casting a vote. Sorry to any fans thereof, just not my musical neighbourhood.

George Davis-Stewart

I feel we are just going to have to agree to disagree here, as I would say this is a great modern metal album for those looking for something beyond just grumbling and fast-playing.

Arrow2theACL

I decided between Jon Anderson and Big Big Train. It would be very interesting to hear Doug's take on the JA plus The Band Geeks vs classic Yes, and, of course, Doug is very well prepared on Big Big Train given his work on the book he and the band have prepared. In the end I went for JA and The Band Geeks. It's a great selection of albums, and it's cheering to think these all came out this year.

Adie

I wouldn't say that. As someone who lives for prog rock and who listened to the album for Mr. Anderson's contributions, it's just grumbling and fast-playing to me. One prog rock fan's opinion though..

Bubbalino

Me too!

Pam Norris

I absolutely second that. In general, I think this could be one of the metal albums that could work very well for prog rock fans.

Berniyh

What Berniyh said

Arrow2theACL

Nightwish is one of the most popular metal bands that is out there. But in this vote, they are just up against very strong competition and the new Opeth album is just awesome. :)

Berniyh

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but I've never heard of Nightwish.

Joe Harley

Come on guys how is Nightwish only on 8%!!!

Adam Jones

Yeah you knew I was going to vote for Luck and Strange right?

KellieE69

I considered both of these!

R. Douglas Helvering

Are there any Yes fans out there? The Jon Anderson album True is as close to (true) Yes as it possible can! It's great no less 😉

Karl Egil Stubsjøen

I need to plug the new Opeth album to Jethro Tull fans as it features Ian Anderson on the flute, spoken word and had a role in developing the concept album.

Arrow2theACL

Hardest choice I've had to make all year! Hoping for a quadruple episode. :)

Sigurd

Yeah, I want to write in for Judas Priest. :)

ben-one-eye

Gilmour's ability to keep you suspended in his guitar solos has simply ripened with age. Every damn note is so carefully selected. I really, really hope Luck and Strange wins!

Bubbalino

Is there an option for write in votes? 😎 Charcoal Grace - Caligula’s Horse😎
