POLL: Fan Favorites Episode 33 - Songs From the Master List Vol. VI

As we start the new year, I'm asking for your help in selecting songs from our Master List that have been waiting patiently.

Vote for up to Five of your preferred options.

Thanks, as always, for your participation and input. Depending on the length of the winning tracks, I'll cover several songs in a dedicated video at the end of the month!

Comments

I have a couple on the master list. They are incredibly talented

The Nanny named Fran

RIP Kofi.

The Nanny named Fran

Looks like from the master list entry, it is Live in Athens, 1987

Matthew Hackbert

Link from the master list says yes: Woodstock Music Festival, August, 1969

Matthew Hackbert

Hopefully Soul Sacrifice is the extended live version from Woodstock.

Richard Plante

For lovers of the flute (I know you are out there, Tull fans), there is a great flute solo by Kofi Burbridge in Angel from Montgomery. Give it a listen.

Mark L

Matt B spun that in the bot last night for us - I am now a fan!! 🥰

Margaret Barnes

Somehow King Crimson will win again. 😂

Ross Pollack

It's good to see Within Temptation on the list, but more votes are needed for them! Somehow i don't think they will make it though with the other names that are on there, which seems a big shame. If they don't make it they should be included for International Womens Day on 8th March though as the Master List says it was penciled for a "Womens Wednesday" with both Sharon Den Adel and Tarja Turunen as vocalists

Matt B

Yes, Doug definitley needs to hear Within Temptation, especially with Tarja Turunen. It is such a great song!

Matt B

I really liked your Wobbler episode Doug. I agree they’re close to Yes and other 70-ties prog legends There’s another Norwegian really good progrock band you should listen to; named Airbag. Also 👌🏻😁

Karl Stubsjoen

One of theirs was picked in the latest Doug on Demand - see video just up. I suspect maybe why Doug has included it? A new band to me - one I want to hear more of.

Adrian Goodrich

Thats quite a list - 5 votes to allocate and its still a difficult choice !

rogerb

Several good alternatives. I’ve chosen Wobbler. Not only because they’re Norwegian, but because they’re a really great Progrock group!!

Karl Stubsjoen

You got my vote!

KellieE69

I have Consequences, and agreed. I recall really looking forward to hearing its impact at the time. But unfortunately it WAS a commercial failure, and the company went bust around 1980/81, I think. The problem seemed to be they could not come up with a reliable and working product to actually manufacture? As I recall, even Bob Moog could not sort the issues. So yes, a definite failure, because virtually no-one else was able to benefit from it (I think Jimmy Page managed to used it at one point?) for nearly 35 years, until someone came up with a new version.

Adrian Goodrich

So many good choices! Although t think Skating Away does shine brighter among the many gems.

Eusebio R-Z

That was a nice selection - sad to see so few votes for Roxy Music. the first Roxy album would be a great EPL - another British band where I'm guessing those of you over the pond only really know the later commercial era? They started out with a really great and fairly unique progressive sound....

Trevor Cotterell

I would love to see a video about a Tedeschi Trucks' song but perhaps one of their edgier songs, such as Shame that more highlights Trucks' playing.

Teresa Conboy

This was a tough poll.

Dean

The Kansas is pretty proggy...

Matthew Hackbert

if yours is the only version on the master list, then yes!

Matthew Hackbert

Hey, there. Anybody know if the Peter Gabriel - San Jacinto on the poll was the one that was my submission - the live version from 1987?

sam theiner

Well, there is 'ol Petey Gabriel. ;-)

sam theiner

Failed Gizmo thing? Maybe a business failure, but hardly a musical failure. Indeed, the Gizmotron is the primary instrument on 'Consequences' and 'Freeze Frame' and still leaves many newcomers to 10cc and Godley-Creme totally floored by the sound spectrum it's capable of producing.

Guitar Channel

Wow, no Yes, no Genesis, no Rush? How will we know what to vote for? 😜

Margaret Barnes

Also when does The Great Nothing by SB make an appearance? Promise you Doug you will love it. It’s peak Neal Morse.

Gary Thobaben

Spoonman! Soundgarden has a lot of proggy elements!

Gary Thobaben

10cc, Roxy, Al Stewart - all absolute greats Brit songs from the wonderful first half of the 1970s. I'm with you, buddy. And yes, Godley and Creme were still in the band - they left to prat about with that failed Gizmo thing the following year.

Adrian Goodrich

It is time for Doug to hear something from Within Temptation. Having Tarja as a guest just adds to the power of the song.

Mark L

Which prompted me to include it this time.

R. Douglas Helvering

Roads to Moscow was done on a recent Doug on Demand

Russell L. Craft

Oh, so do I too!! Great music and fabulous storytelling. I saw him live a few years ago, when he played every song on "Year of the Cat" and explained what every one was REALLY about! Roads to Moscow, and Nostradamus, are fabulous songs from the superb "Past Present and Future" album. Yet another so-underrated musician!

Adrian Goodrich

As the one who submitted Kansas, please consider this epic mini-suite from their first Album. For Doug, make sure to let the songs run together for maximum impact!

Matthew Hackbert

10cc with Godley-Creme still in the band, I believe? Great song. RTF, Roxy Music, Al Stewart, and lots of other greats.

Guitar Channel

Hoping Al Stewart pulls through. Roads to Moscow deserves analysis both musically and lyrically/historically. Stewart is ever the storyteller.

Illume Eltanin

For once I actually like every single one of the choices. Good ones Pam. 💕

The Nanny named Fran

Hooray for Tedeschi Trucks in the lineup! 💕

The Nanny named Fran

So many great songs on the list! Thanks for doing this!

Pam Norris

Good luck, Pam! Hope you're well.

R. Douglas Helvering

I suggested Sara by Fleetwood Mac and Ventura Highway by America. Please give them an upvote🩷
