Liquid Tension Experiment: LTE2 | Extended Play Lounge Ep. 88

Get ready for an exciting musical joyride, y'all. This album is a legit banger. I was riveted by this music from beginning to end, and I was astounded (as expected) at the high quality of their musicianship. Enjoy!

Thanks so much Berniyh! I very much enjoyed the listen.

LTE is beyond good. Awesome group.

Hi Doug, First of all...great haircut, looking sharp! I've never heard LTE before (have heard some Dream Theater). Overall an intriguing bunch of songs, with some incredible playing - both soft and hard. Like you I wasn't a fan of that snare sound, in places it really intruded too much on the rest of the instruments. I can't say I'd buy an album and listen more than occasionally, although the teenage me would have raved about it purely because of the musicianship. That last song owed its melody to Queen's "Love Of My Life" did it not? Tony sneaked in a bit of that barber shop influence with that quirky interjection midway through did he? Thanks again for bringing new music to my ears.

Wow, been travelling for a week, missed the poll (Nightwish against Muse against LTE, how cruel is that!?! :D) and then this happened! Of course, I had to dive into it right after coming back! I once read in a YT comment about LTE "The main difference between DT and LTE is that DT never really sounds cheerful" and I think that quote is pretty much on point. You can see the DT in it, but extended to even more variety, more musical styles, with more happy parts and generally a more elevated feeling to the music. It's DT going out of their comfort zone and playing what just didn't quite fit into the DT realm of music. When I suggested this, I already knew that you'll like Biaxident and that you'll have a bit of troubles with Acid Rain, but I have to say I didn't expect you to Like Chewbacca that much. Already thought about suggesting it for a Weird Wednesday, but I didn't feel that it'd get enough votes. Same with the Chris & Kevin series. My personal favorite on the album is definitely Biaxident. I just love that combination of styles, the solos of John and Jordan as well as the overall groove of the song. But of course I also adore When the Water Breaks and the rest of the songs. In Another Dimension I always have think of the saying "Well, that escalated quickly". :D In When the Water Breaks, I like that you also noticed that they basically wrote like 5 or 6 ending sections for the song and then just decided to put them all in. Liquid Dreams is the musical piece I always think of when somebody (on YT, Reddit etc.) complains about Jordan always doing the same stuff (usually right before mentioning Kevin Moore, who of course is also an awesome musician). It perfectly highlights his creativity, his sense for the musical moment and style. In DT he just does what fits DT. Thank you Doug for having a go at this and for your comments on the tracks, loved the episode. :)

So far, I will say their has to be some early Genesis and King Crimson inspiration within their music.

I have never heard of LTE in my life so this is a first listen for me. For those LTE fans...I will reply to this comment to give you my first reaction them...what fun to get Doug's take and my short reaction in the comments? I don't do this ever...but, to get myself motivated to listen to this, I thought this would be a way for me to do so.

Fascinating. I didn't enjoy this until 'When the Water Breaks', and from there on I found more and more to like. At the start, all I could hear was the joy of the musicians in their mastery of their instruments and their art. Lovely to hear, but nothing to do with me. Then, in an extended track, I could be with them as they found their way, and I was on board for their journey. I would like to trap Jordan Rudess in a room with a grand piano, and demand a 'Keith Jarrett type' album from him before I would set him free. I think he would produce the most beautiful solo piano album - comparable with the greats.

I give Biaxident credit for my Dream Theater obsession. It turned up on Pandora, and I said "Who were those guys?!?" And the rest was history.

John Wismar

I'd swear John Petrucci is channeling Steve Morse in many tracks here.

Jim Reeves

Okay, there's a trend here, When the Water Breaks in reminiscient of the Dregs "I'm Freaking Out".

Jim Reeves

I got Joe Satriani vibes from this one for some reason.

Ross Pollack

Biaxident sounds alot like some Dixie Dregs with some Kansas thrown in.

Jim Reeves

Acid Rain definately had derivatives of Al Di Meola.

Jim Reeves

Freaking awesome
