Allegri's Miserere Mei, Deus was written for performance specifically in the Sistine Chapel in the late 1630's. With the recent naming of a new pope, my thoughts were again on this piece...and I'm happy to share some history and analysis of this beautiful work. Enjoy.

2025-05-14 15:05:17 +0000 UTCThanks for this. I had not heard the Tenebrae version before and it was interesting to follow along the voice leading and suspension resolutions on the score. Here in London, we are somewhat spoiled with high-class choral groups. And I agree with your comments on Voces8, who are my favourites. But you may not have read that Andrea is leaving them later in the year (after 17(?) years!). That will definitely change their sound.
