🚨This Month’s Theme: Celebrating National Poetry Month🚨
Friends, we are celebrating National Poetry Month with an April Fan Favorites focused on **our favorite song lyrics.** One of my favorite elements to music are the texts and poems that are chosen to bring our musical ideas to life. I’m a choral/vocal composer by trade, and analyzing poetry is one of my favorite things to do. I want to know some of your favorite lyrics and break down their meaning.

Add your submissions directly in the fan-favorites channel on Discord
Read and follow all instructions and info in the StickyDoug post pinned to the bottom of the fan-favorites channel on Discord

2024-04-14 16:38:13 +0000 UTCHi, Robert, what a flattering offer. So long as Doug does not object to us running a side-hustle, I am happy to offer you some of my favourites. Following from my write-up on the recent Doug On Demand, cheering for the music of Pete Atkin and the lyrics of Clive James, I would direct you to a pretty exhaustive site where you can read about and hear almost anything they produced: https://www.peteatkin.com/pa.htm. Clive James was seemingly never short of inspiration or reflection for his writing but he did speak of learning to distinguish between what made a good lyric and what worked in poetic form. If that all seems too much to allow mere enjoyment then I might recommend two artists from very different genres: Stephen Sondheim, need I say more? Also giving me considerable joy over the years is Loudon Wainwright III whose gift for a wry turn of phrase seemed inexhaustible (but start with his earlier albums).

2024-04-12 18:01:33 +0000 UTCHi George, I would be interested in listening to your suggestion if you tell me here. I'll do it on my own, for my own benefit, if that is okay with you? Part of why I joined this community was to expand my knowledge and absorb what others have to offer. It is how I grow as an artist, and as a person.

2024-04-10 05:16:48 +0000 UTCWe keep our discord private…and I don’t share the link. This is for our community’s benefit and safety. To find us, link your discord to your Patreon and select a user role from the drop-down as you do so. There’s more info on this in the welcome video.

2024-04-10 03:36:55 +0000 UTCI’m sorry about your experience. Doing this via discord mainly gives us a mechanism by which the community can upvote, and every submission is registered and treated fairly.

2024-04-10 03:34:28 +0000 UTCMuch as I appreciate that Discord serves as a useful filter to limit the clamouring for long-cherished favourites, I do feel that it also excludes voices with something to offer, including my own. I had a wander around Discord when I first linked up, but I do not find it an attractive environment, so my indisputably rewarding suggestions for song lyrics will have to remain my close-kept pleasure. Sorry, folks.
