Very late to the party on this one. Happy you heard Fairport! I'm gonna ramble a bit here. 1. You really liked Sandy Denny when you reacted to Led Zep's Battle of Evermore. There's so much more out there. 2. Liege and Lief is one of the most influential albums ever, in any genre, literally inventing folk rock (with respectful nods to the Byrds in the US, and Sweeney's Men in the UK). You'll like the full album, but especially IMO Reynardine and Tam Lin. 3. When I heard Fairport back in '96, Simon Nicol introduced this song by noting that it has 18 verses and 2 chords, but if it had 2 verses and 18 chords, it would be a Steely Dan song. 4. Richard Thompson's solo catalog is huge and amazing. Over the decades, a favorite guitarist (alongside Robert Fripp, John McLaughlin, Steve Hackett, a handful of others), and a songwriter of immense originality and range.

For those of you who like Ship of Fools, I'm sure you'd love Principle of Moments, featuring the song Big Log. You can go vote for my submission now at "recommend-vote" (nudge nudge, wink wink)

Great EPL. A lot of great bands/artists. Thanks Doug.

Great selection, sorry I missed it (again). I also forgot to mention that Starship Trooper on the β€˜78-9 tour was in the middle of the set, it wasn’t a closer or encore as it would become later. That whole show is fantastic.

Just to clear up the Great Scott mystery (in case you haven't already spotted it) - when you removed GS after he came up on the wheel, you clicked 'remove' rather than 'remove all instances'. There were two instances of GS, so the second remained to be spotted by you at the end of the session. I'm sure no one is interested 🀣, it's just the sort of nerdy detail that excites me I'm afraid πŸ€ͺ

I am glad you liked the Fairport Convention song I picked, "Matty Groves" ... I was fortunate to see 5/6 of that lineup (different woman singer) perform the album live in England at the band's annual reunion festival

BRIAN MILLER

Sorry I missed the Zoom session. Thanks for posting the video so I can watch it now.

Doug - thanks for the analysis on "Blow Away" and I really enjoyed this one. I dug a bit and found that Harrison played it with a capo on the 5th fret, so he plays it as if it is in A Major, but the capo transposes it up to D Major. I also listened to the Fairport Convention album last night and I hope that one breaks through into an EPL soon.

Ross Pollack

A very entertaining selection of musics; I was happy to have some of my favourites on the bill, viz. Brand X, Quiet Sun and Fairport Convention but much enlightened by the other selections. Thanks to you all.

George Davis-Stewart

Thanks, Doug! Glad you loved it. EPL, please? πŸ˜‰ And I agree with Ray, more Canterbury, please!
