Aerosmith (Toys in the Attic) | Extended Play Lounge Ep. 74

I didn't go into this month planning to listen to some Aerosmith, but I'm really proud to share this episode. The first side of this reaction was blocked on YouTube, so I decided to turn it into an EPL...so here's my reaction to the entire album!

I was today years old before I found out that the band took a break from recording this record to go see Mel Brooks’ new film, Young Frankenstein. The next day, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry wrote “Walk This Way,” inspired by Marty Feldman’s line from the film!

Love the reaction. Knew you'd get a kick out of that 10 Inch......record! When I saw Aerosmith live in 1988, they opened their set with Toys In The Attic. So glad I got to see them.

Great EPL - However personally, I think it's their weakest 70's album. I loved Aerosmith in my teens and 20's drifted away from them after the early 90's. The albums each side of this in my opinion are absolute classics. Get Your Wings has amongst many great songs, my favourite Aerosmith song, Seasons of Wither and then Rocks is end to end great. Also have a huge love for Night in the Ruts which came out when I was 16 and started my love of the band...

This was a college years album for me. When it was first released only the guys from Boston area knew of Aerosmith, but that changed fast. Side 1 was always on someone’s turntable.

Doug - great EPL and I'm glad that you and Meg dug for the correct album version of "Sweet Emotion." I think Rocks (the follow-up to Toys in the Attic) is probably the best candidate for the next Aerosmith EPL. Having a "Doug's Choice" for this EPL was also nice. I would definitely support a Doug's Choice or Meg's Choice every now and then - either tied to a current event (as this one was), an album that's been languishing on the Master List for a while, or just something you have always wanted to review and may not be on the list.

I am most familiar with the songs on the old "Greatest Hits" compilation on 1 CD (red and white cover), as well as the ones you grew up listening to. I just turned 52, so am slightly older than Doug but similar generation

I've been watching your reactions for a few years now and it's a great way to spend some time and enjoy such a great guy like you discovering new music. Having that said, Aerosmith has been my favorite band since 1997 (precisely the middle of their 54 years career), and I'm so glad you got to hear this fantastic album, only topped by their following Rocks, a true perfect masterpiece. I hope you get to enjoy that soon. (and Pain Of Salvation's BE in its entirety too 😁😁😁). Cheers from Brazil!

I saw Aerosmith once in an outdoor music festival and it was a lot of fun, even if I'm not a huge fan. Their 70's albums are much more in my wheel house than the latter stuff, and they played a lot of those old songs.

This was such a great review. The first side is truly a great piece of work. The hubs and I saw this tour back in the day and it was even more fun live. But Aerosmith music is timeless. My kids and grandkids enjoy it to this day. Thanks for reviewing. I agree the side 2 was rarely played by us as well. We actually had this in an 8 track and it was a fabulous road trip album 💿
