I heard the very impressive title suite a few years ago, and it was a wonderful experience to return to it for a second time. And, side one was thoroughly entertaining. This album has loads of musical color and personality. I hope you enjoy!

I have to say this was a much better side 1 (and full album for that matter) than I remember. Some really great moments, and a musical statement that stands alone - well worth returning to. I voted for Thrak, and I would still dearly love to have that album go into the EPL canon, but the richness of this channel is the combination of the collective wisdom of the subscribers and the depth of expertise and sensitivity of Doug. I am all the better for having listened to this rather than my first choice as it openned my ears.

2025-09-28 18:05:12 +0000 UTC+1 can't hardly wait for Islands, particularly Sailor's Tale, my personal favorite of the period but must be the original studio track for impact. Best listened on phones in a darkened room or eyes closed. Incredibly inspired, even by today's standards. Lizard was certainly impactful on acid!

The title-track suite on its own is worth the record but the first side as well is quite amazing , its very whimsical , weird , free-form but then you get "Lady of the dancing water" at the end as to prove how eclectic Robert Fripp's vision of music is , a continuous contrast between semplicity/complexity and deconstruction of harmony. The real star on this album to me tho is Keith Tippet on the keyboards , he is as much a mad genius as Robert is , his approach to the instrument is outstanding and provides much of the colour this album has. You'll love "Islands" as the follow-up to this one , its a bit more edgy and romantic , less humour but amazing nonetheless. Loved your reaction as usual Doug , there's plenty still to be discovered : Robert Fripp's first solo album "Exposure" for example would be a really good choice in the future ;) .
