Jacob Collier: World O World | Behind the Score - Ep. 70

I'm pleased to present to you the first work by Jacob Collier that we've studied in this series. World O World is a piece for unaccompanied choir, written for the Aeolians of Oakwood University in 2018. The music is truly a product of a 21st century musical prodigy, weaving effortlessly between a myriad of stylistic influences. It's reverent but not sacred and jazzy without being saccharine or predictable. I hope you enjoy!

Thanks so much for this very helpful analysis. Jacob seems to be a pure channel for the musical spirit and he has never seemed to have any nerves at all in concert, as he channels the music and it takes him where he is meant to be. Impressive as this piece is, I'm hoping this Mozart breaks new boundaries in music as he matures so we can hear a new chapter of music history.

Heard it on DoD the other day and was struck by its almost ancient sound which is also modern in style at the same time. And it sounds sacred and hymnal, but is secular. There're some real "wow" moments in there which just grab the ears and deliver a huge ASMR bolt to the brain.

Also, thanks for all the background information about Jacob and the Aeolians (and about yourself). I learnd a lot, makes me appreciate this song even more - if that's even possible. And yes - World O World, you don't make much sense these days. At least Jacob does.
